    Nintendo in hot water over Wii-mote copyright infringement?

    Interlink Electronics are taking Nintendo to court over claims that the Wii-mote infringes on their patent.

    Check out the Headline for more info.

    Was wondering how long it was going to be before something like this happened.

    *sigh*

    There're always some cases happen when a successful console launches.
    If you remember immersion sue sony and microsoft for the vibration of the controllers on ps2 and xbox. Gamecube didn't get sued for that.

    I am sure some companies are set up purely to do this.

    Anyhow, why did they wait until it was released...publicity, no surely not!

    patents != copyright

    and the specific implementation of the patent versus wiimote couldn't be more different - the pointer is implemented in a completely different manner, so only the "has trigger, points at tv" clause could be upheld (which is rediculously vague)

    It does have ability to tilt, on some axis (I think the key 4 axis). But this was a token thing to get around the fact it doesn't have vibration...not sure what games use it or how much.

    And yeah it is ague but for a few tens of thousands of dollars legal fees, they could set themselves up for life!

    Now there is a money spinner...patents and copyrights

    Only limited to what you can imagine. At some point some sucker will come along and develop a device that only remotely resembles something in your scrawled design.

    Wait for it to be successful....then slap them across the face with infringement lawsuits and get stinky rich!!!

    I love the title of it though "Trigger operated electronic device". Hmmmmm...I think the inventor of the good old TV remote should come out of hiding and perform a double whammy on Interlink. It would serve them right for being sneaky money grabbing muthas trying to get rich off the back of others.

    the ps3 pad has a fairly laggy tilt sensor, whilst the wii has accelerometers & a pointer
