Pretty good review, I thought the game might be a bit shallow. Maybe one to rent on the 360 later in the year.

Although I feel I should mention that Saphira is a she not a he (at least she was in the book, haven't seen the film yet)

Haven't seen the film yet, thanks! Looks like a he. I've put she in the review though, unless I'm missing where the mistake is?

It's not awful by any means, if I was to rate it I'd give it about 50-55%. Worth a rent.

Is this actually based on the best selling novel? Or is it instead based on the aweful film that apparently has little to do with the book?

Hmmm... I looked at several posters for the film, took in the predictable American fantasy naming conventions, predictable American fantasy plot lines and shook my head in despair.. imagine my surprise when I find out the novel is written by a teenaged American!

Good luck to him, I understand he's a home-schooled, self-published author so I do wish him well - however, I'm not a fan of high fantasy - it's amazing how knowing a bit about medieval armour and tactics can ruin a whole genre of fiction for you...

PS I hate Harry Potter too.

Maybe it's just me, but why does the whole Eragon thing seem to be an unabashed rip-off of Lord of the Rings? (Disclaimer: I haven't read the book or seen the film but have been subjected to a couple of weeks of US TV adverts)

The book was really good, but you can definitely see the influence that Star Wars and Lord of the rings had on the story.

    I don't think it's just you TBH.

My first thought was Eragon, er, Aragorn?

I get strangely angry with a lot of modern high fantasy writing. I've not read Eragon either and I don't think I would (unless someone gave me a free copy and then I might!) but I feel just by looking at the names/themes I really don't need to.

Why is it every bloody fantasy book is Book 1 of the Haemorrohoidia Trilogy (which then turns into the Haemorrohoidia Saga of 15 books) and each more crappy than the last?

If you've got to have magic in your books I think you should do it like Peter Morwood does. Now *that's* a fantasy writer and no mistake!!

From the adverts for the film it even seemed they'd found a Liv Tyler lookalike for the lead female role.
