HEXUS.tv :: XCM XFPS 360: Console FPS played properly

Console FPS games look good, but often have a control system quite different to that of the PC. If you like the wasd approach, then this little gadget could be the answer... an adapter from XCM that lets you connect regular keyboards and mice up to the XBox 360. Pwnage.

Grrrr, as was pointed out when this first got mentioned this is going to make Live a horrible place to play. People with keyboard and mouse have is so easy over *most* controller people.

Quake3 on dreamcast when a PC person came in was just silly.

The advantage of console online play is you KNOW everyone is on the same equal footing but no more

Now I WANT an xbox 360.

Have to ask - Hexus, why no sound? Would of personally liked someone to talk rather than point and also to describe the product a bit further.

    Still love you Hexus though.

agreed, that will completely destroy the "fairness/level playing field" of online 360 games, and every time someone is having a good win streak I can foresee shouts of "cheater! your using a keyboard" etc... from people on the receiving end.

On the other hand it would pull people towards the 360 that otherwise wouldn't have looked twice at it.

I can also foresee a dashboard update coming to detect/stop people using that device.

It'd be better to detect/flag people using that device so people know, or filter by it... so choose servers with keyboards disallowed/allowed, for example.

This device may convince me to buy a 360 instead of drop double the amount to upgrade my PC. Up to now the awkwardness of control of FPS (my fave genre) on consoles has pushed me down the PC route.

Seconded, a proper commentary would have been more useful than the music. If only 360s weren't so damn expensive.

I'm skeptical about this device; every FPS game on 360 is designed around the sensitivity of the analog stick. I can't see how the mouse will be anywhere near as responsive as playing on a computer. I hope I'm wrong, I would absolutely love to play Gears / Halo / CoD etc.. using a mouse and keyboard but I doubt the response rate is going to be there which will negate the advantage of having a mouse...

    Prove me wrong....please!

These videos were sent to us by the manufacturers through email, hence the low quality and lack of sound.

We will be bringing you more on this very soon though... stuff we've done ourselves.

    Old xbox

Does anyone know if this will also work on an old xbox?
I've (permanently) lent mine to my nephew because I can't play with a controller (I'm too old), if I could use this I'd get it back.

Well, this is another tick in the box for me getting an XBox 360. Just need news of a price drop in the next month (it's due surely?) and I'm sold.

Can't see why this would too unfair, what with XBox Live Anywhere going to allow PC and console players to play some games together. I believe I read somewhere that whilst testing this there was little difference in the skill between PC and console players. However, with this device you wouldn't know, which I suppose could be seen as a bit unfair.

Most FPS games have options to change the sensitivity of the analogue stick, which I would hope make the mouse far more responsive.

The only problem I can see is that to get headset support, you would need to leave the wired controller plugged in and get (buy in my case) a PS2 keyboard. Not to mention all the wires. Oh, and keyboards/mice aren't exactly lap friendly either. Minor things though really.

Look forward to the proper Hexus review.

Dunno about the price-drop but there's an update due soon with an HDMI-out cable and a 120gb HDD (allegedly)

    Wouldn't mind a 120gb HDD myself
