Casio sums up 1 billion calculator sales

The company was founded in 1957 and during that year created the world's first calculator that ran on all electric relays rather than mechanical gears (and maybe steam?). The device was, by virtue of its vastly superior technology, considered 'compact'. Of course, by today's standards, it would be the calculator equivalent of an oil freighter.

i've always had casio's mainly due to school, VIth form and then Uni don't really use one any more :S Must have one dotted around somewhere. I half expected 1 Billion to have come sooner, but then that is a serious amount of calculators

i've still got my original HP calculator that you have to input everything backwards.

seems a bit clockwork now and is a bit of a bitch to remember how to work it if i have gone back to it after a while of not using it.

    Reverse Polish Notation?

We had to write a program that did that (with the basic four operators) last year. Fun, but not very natural.

Just read the Hexus article, which pleased me somewhat as I wasn't aware Casio had released a graphical calculator that supported their 'natural display' - something which I've grown fond of in my current Casio.
