But thats half the game over for them. They can only revoke a player when they KNOW what player has had its volume key compromised. All thats going to happen is the exchanging of disk keys over the net that have been obtained by one of these compromised players. Im sure someone is already working on a database somewhere.
To be honest, I disagree with what you’re saying about AACS there. AACS hasn’t been cracked, Just bypassed by inserting a valid key. AACS is working exactly as it was intended at the moment; no holes have been found in it like CSS that allow the dumping of a disk without other external information. You still need a valid volume key to grab the disk key; therefore, IMO AACS has not been cracked.
Perhaps cracked was the wrong word to use in my post there, but you know what im getting at. If I cant dump a disk to my HD, im not interested in it.
Thing is, people will just start to get this key from different players on the market. It doesnt need to be a software player, a livingroom player would be just as easy for somone with the correct understanding and equipment. Sure, they can revoke the players, but are they going to do that when the majority have their key published? - can you imagine the uproar it will cause by people who have paid hard cash for them? And as already mentioned, they need to know what player has been compromised. If someone finds the key but keep’s their mouth shut and just releases disk keys, the AACS crew have no way to know which player has leaked the key, hence, they can’t revoke it.
Now lets assume they have found the player that’s been compromised. Great, they can now revoke the content - but what exactly are they going to revoke ? All films before a certain date? - Im sure that will make people very happy. Oh, and it still doesn’t solve the issue of someone just going and grabbing another volume key from another player.
Unless every player released is 100% secure, the best it's going to do is slow people down, not stop it.
edit - seems this was already knew about back in 2005 - http://www.eff.org/deeplinks/archives/003513.php
Somebody sent me an email saying that porn is available on Blu-Ray in Japan.
Unfortunately, I can't read Japanese and babblefish isn't being too helpful, but apparently this is the link:

I answered because of this sentence in the article
"Currently, there are no adult movie studios producing porn for Blu-ray. "
Also the japanese tends adopt this kind of new technology faster than us and I don't think the japanese porn is any less active than ours.So i think the japanese porn on br will actually have some influence.
I took glays as my exemple because it was the first company releasing in this format. Some other companies also release and are planning to release in this format in japan.
But I wonder why sony would allow porn in japan and not in the us.
The INQ had a piece on HD-DVD and BR each winning the Porn war. If Sony have said no to Porn on their BR discs then as history has shown that really wont bode that well for them at all.
Having said that, Sony may back track as it has done recently with it's PS3 sales figures to suggest that xxx porn is ok, whereas xxxx porn is not. It really wouldn't surprise me if they did.
However all this is in vain, even Bill Gates said that HD-DVD or BR will be the last optical format war and to be honest, the next gen idea of memory sticks is going to come along a lot quicker than people expect.
Apparently, Sony have leased/given a BRD presser to some company in based in Taiwan, whom the AV companies can then source their footage to and import back. Technically, it's not Sony that's doing it.

Anyway, you have to take into account how much the internet has changed this industry; downloading HD-quality stuff off the net serioiusly dampens the sway effect of it all, espeically if it's a direct digital raw>encode.
And I'm sure downloading the content is more inconspicuous (and thus preferred to) than walking into the shop, picking up that "Backdoor Bandits XXX 8" case and waiting in line at the checkout queue
First off, this thread is 8 months old.
Second, we don't need to know people's porn viewing habits.
Third, It's very unlikely xxx rated content will have the same impact today compared to back then, when there's this thing called, umm, The Internet..
Fourth, Blu-Ray has pretty much won already - get over it.
