Intel promises faster Vista laptop WiFi with twice the range

Intel is holding out the promise of faster wireless connectivity - and greater range - from Windows Vista notebook computers that use its new-generation internal WiFi card.

Acer, Asus, Gateway and Toshiba are said to be the first to be launching - this month.

Intel must be pretty confident that the 802.11n v1.1 spec that has been submitted to the full IEEE committee is going to be accepted as standard then.

No info on there being Expresscard ones available for us Dell laptop users, although saying that, there doesnt seem to be much of anything in Expresscard format.

Even if it isn't, the fact that thats what all Centrino laptops will be using after a certain points means it'll become a defacto standard and all the main players will work to ensure compatibility with it, as will be seen with "Connect With Centrino" logo'ed Draft-N routers.

It will physically fit if you have a laptop with a mini PCI-E slot (Napa based ones might but I don't know if its a given, older ones won't), but they won't have the correct aerial.
