We take a look at HIS' new Radeon HD 4850 IceQ4 Turbo X that looks to solve the biggest weakness of the HD 4850 reference design - the finger-scorching cooler.
And to top it off it's pre-overclocked to boost performance.
Is the IceQ 4 Turbo as fantastic as its logo implies?

Looks like a good value for money vga card to me.

Yup. Definitely one of the better propositions if you're spending under £150 on your next graphics card.
Re: Reviews - HIS IceQ 4 TurboX Radeon HD 4850 - the best a man can get?
A great looking 4850 for sure but with special offers appearing on 4870 and 260's from time to time now placing them at £160, it makes you wonder if putting that bit more towards a card is worth it as you would still get better performance form either the 4870 or 260 even at stock clocking.
Still if you can not afford that extra bit then this really is one of the best cards you can get for less than £150

What's the noise like on this one? I'm sure it's quiet especially when Idle but is it noticable?
I know there is a little about it in the review but is there any sort of comparison you can make just by ear?

I'm sure the noise is minimal, as that fan looks just like the Arctic NV Silencer 5 i have on my 7800GT, and its pretty much as silent as it gets.
I could be wrong however :undecided

Nice card and price imo. One thing, how do u work out the temp? just play a ganme for X amount of time? cos my 8800GTS 512mb gets to like 85C (from 65C idle) so its not much better than the ati cards, my card has an extra fan over it to help or else it would at like 90C.
Re: Reviews - HIS IceQ 4 TurboX Radeon HD 4850 - the best a man can get?
In order to work out the temps we do the following:
After all the benchmarks have been run, one full iteration of 3DMark06 is run @ 1920x1200 4xAA 16xAF.
As soon as it starts running the duration since it was started is timed with a stopwatch, and after 12 minutes have expired (the benchmark itself finishes after about 7-8 mins), then the idle temp is noted down.
3DMark06 is run once again at the same settings and the temperature is logged whilst it's running.
After it has finished running the logged temperatures are checked, and the maximum temp whilst it was running, is noted down as the load temp.
After both temperatures have been recorded, the ambient temperature is measured by averaging the result of two different thermometers that are in close proximity to the test platform.
This then allows the ambient-idle and ambient-load temperature deltas to be calculated.

Just got mine from Scan. Constant high pitch 'screaming' from the card/fan. Very unhappy. Tried CCC manual control and you can just about get rid of it at 25% fan speed. Fan tone changes with speed too. Maybe this is the tonal version of different coloured lights? Have searched the net and it seems I'm not the only one with this problem.:help:

hey I just got one of these for my new budget gaming pc and although I have a general understanding for computers and their components, I am still a bit of a noob.
the fact that it was selfpowered via the mobo made feel a bit uncofortable, thats ok right?
