Home networking lets you do great things that aren't possible with standalone PCs. Printers can be shared between PC, so there's no need to buy one for each machine; data can be swapped around virtually instantaneous; and every PC can go on the net via a single modem or ADSL connection. But, for many years, the price to be paid was having messy wires trailing all around the house, with associated hazards such as disentangling the dog from the mess or persuading the cat to stop chewing cables. Then along came the WiFi wireless networking standard, allowing computers and peripherals to communicate without all those cables.

I always have p[roblems with wi-fi and even bluetooth, im afraid your guide doesnt help, but its good to see informaiton becoming more readily avialiable for us too dim to figure it all out.

Even simpler than that. There are situations relatively simple that do NOT have answer readli available.

As example, I have a problem that maybe looks stupid, but I havent been able to solve. A desktop and a laptop, bot connected via wi-fi to a router. Both computers are fine in the internet, but they don't see each other. They are on the same workgroup and everything, but they don't appear on the "network neighbor". The only way I have is to do a Search/computers/ then input the IP number, and then I can see the other computer. But this is of course less than convenient.

I haven't found a single article or explanation to arrange a simple network like this. Maybe it's just me...

So you see that there's still something to discuss about wi-fi...

Im not sure a trouble shooting guide would cut it. I think its a job for experts to look at cases one on one.

A weird mess of wirless router and ntl modem and obscure laptops has been annoying me recently.

I find most network issues can be solved by not buying anything made by D-Link.

If you have problems connecting with Windows Vista to your wireless router, you have joined a very large family. Search for Microsoft KB928233 on your favourite search engine to find the solution.
