Ebuyer just send me an email advertising the Core i5 750 at £150.
Overclockers and Scan are doing them @ £160
Your guesstimatation was £25 off :D

Wonder what the i7 860 will be then! Got to be sub-£200 really.
Edit: £225 - £235 seems to be the early price you can expect to pay. Stick with i7 920 for now then!

We've updated the review with revised pricing.
Day-zero costs are always higher, and we expect the Core i5 750 to drop to £140, Core i17 860 to £190 and Core i7 870 to £385 once the dust settles.
The exchange rate was slightly better when we published initial pricing.

Don't forget these chips actually cost more for Intel to make than bloomfield, in terms of die size. The packaging for bloomfield is only bigger because of the extra pins needed for triple channel and QPI.
If the cost comes down much below bloomfield chips it's only due to market position and that additional savings are made elsewhere with attached components (like the p55 chipset for eg.)

The i5 750 isnt as energy efficient as I initially thought it was going to be, its not bad, but its not great.

That review is going to make difficult reading at AMD. Looks like we're set for a few more years of the Performance System = Intel, Budget System = AMD divide... be VERY interested to see how the i3 measures up in both price and performance when it's released.

I expected that would happen. I think eventually the i5 750 will drop to about £130/£140, however I'm still debating whether its worth going for. Not sure if its really worth me changing my Q6600 especially when my primary use is gaming.

Probably not IMHO... I would wait and see what comes with the 32nm quad/hex cores... for now a better thing to do would probably be to buy into the imminent new graphics cards - if you're a gamer that is.
I actually just picked up a Q6600 to upgrade my overclocked E4300 and was reading the review thinking I did the right thing, sure the i5/i7 is faster, but the cost to upgrade my whole system just doesn't justify it... yet...

FYI - the table in the page "How do the new chips stack up?" is blocked by the MSI advert for me

can you try P55 vs X58, with Quad CF and Quad SLI?
ALSO someone tell me why there are no benchmarks for QCF/QSLI at 2560 4xaa 16/af for crysis? i mean at that point im sure CPU scaling will comeinto affect due to the overhead of QCF/QSLI. who games at 1680 with mid settings?
wouldnt checking CPU scaling with the best res/settings on crysis DX10 show how much OCing and/or a new proccessor helps?

There is an article about this on Toms Hardware frontpage.

Couldn't find a single retailer / e-tailer selling the Core i7 860 for £199.

Good review, thanks. Tough choice between the i5 and i7 860, but I think the price tempts me towards i5.

The i5 750 beats all of AMD's Phenoms 2's - including the 965.

AMD needs to do some serious tweaking of deneb or rush the bulldozer architecture out asap otherwise they are going to be squeezed really badly by chipzilla.
Lets just hope the 5xxx series of graphics cards are as good or better than nvidias 3xxx series

Another consideration for comparison is that the Core i7 960 3.2GHz is due Q4 2009 for $562--see Wikipedia > Nehalem > 45 nm processor architecture. Another site says it's due Oct.18.
