Hopefully the SB850 will finally resolve the AMD AHCI issues.

Wonder what kind of heat the new northbridge give off. I found my MSI 780gx got rather too hot without any fan assistance.

    Re: Reviews - ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3: ushering in AMD's 890GX chipset

Just got one from scan today

think its the PRO only model though! - Scan's label says its a PRO/USB3 - but neither does the packaging or any manuals say its USB3!

I've also noted it doesnt say USB3 on the board just like in the pics in this review so it must be only a PRO model.....

Also note - If you want to use a normal graphics card with this board - i.e. A 5850 (like I have) - you can only use the lower PCI-E x16 slot - its awfully close to my soundcard (X-fi) and would have been much better suited for airflow etc, with the first slot (u have to slot the VGA switchboard thingie in PCI-E slot 1 in order to use an external card)

    Re: Reviews - ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3: ushering in AMD's 890GX chipset

Returned my PRO model to scan and ended up being impatient and purchasing the USB3 model from elsewhere.

With good airflow in my Antec 902 case i ain't seen motherboard temps rise above ambient room temperature. Tis a nice board but lacks any support as yet - even asus website doesnt list it yet!

I don't think it likes my DDR3-16000 corsair memory though as it keeps crashing prime95 after a couple of hours (not just stopping prime95 but causes it to stop responding!). Probably a memory setting I need to change - not had time to look into it yet.

    Re: Reviews - ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3: ushering in AMD's 890GX chipset

be careful buying RAM for this board - Even if its on the Asus QVL as Asus mods have commented as follows:

"There is nothing wrong with the Asus QVL... and the memory listed actually worked in R&D when the board was being tested.. But that was actually a long time ago.. at least in computer time...

The QVL is generally out of date within a month... memory chips change in the kits they tested... SPD programming changes... and so if at all possible, you want to avoid the QVL and use a memory vendor's online configurator. Unfortunately, this board is so new that most vendors still do not list it... so the QVL is all there is right now... but when vendors do list the board, you can be assurred that the memory they list, all things being equal, will work properly. "

Only problem with this statement is that the ONLY site to list any compatible memory with this board PRO or USB3 is Crucial - £200 for 4Gb of RAM - I don't think so.
