So just how good is a watercooled GeForce GTX 480?

Re: Reviews - Scan 3XS Cyclone PC - first with watercooled GeForce GTX 480
Is the GPU temp really 72c, watercooled when stressed ?
That seems very high for that setup, even with the ambient temps and overclocked GPU taken into account.
Re: Reviews - Scan 3XS Cyclone PC - first with watercooled GeForce GTX 480
Out of curiosity what would you expect it to be?
These cards hit 100degrees with the stock air cooler without the 20%+ overclock  28 degrees lower plus an OC isnt to be sniffed at IMO.
Cheers

I've built my own GTX 480 watercooled setup using the nickel waterblock. I leave it on folding when I'm not gaming, and when folding mine runs at 56 degrees C. Admitedly it's only 66% utilised, but that is overclocked to 800/1600/2000 (Core/Shader/Mem). I moved it up to 850/1700/2000 but it wasn't stable or folding 24/7 so I backed it off.

GonZ0 appears to be getting very good temps watercooling SLI'd 480s - "GTX480's are sat at 28 degrees c idle, and with the msi kombustor running they go up to a whopping 35 degrees":

I note that is with a triple rad though.
Re: Reviews - Scan 3XS Cyclone PC - first with watercooled GeForce GTX 480
... just to add, I'm on stock volts, only using a single loop with the CPU included in that loop, and a dual radiator... Nothing OTT.
Re: Reviews - Scan 3XS Cyclone PC - first with watercooled GeForce GTX 480
To be fair I reckon Scan know what they're doing. If those are the results then I believe them :P
Re: Reviews - Scan 3XS Cyclone PC - first with watercooled GeForce GTX 480
Remember, people, that the card is quite heavily overclocked to 852MHz core. It's spitting out an extra 30W-40W when compared with a default-clocked card.
Re: Reviews - Scan 3XS Cyclone PC - first with watercooled GeForce GTX 480
nice review but why not show standard gtx 480 results too ?
its nice to see it gets close to dual card setups but we wanna see how it fares against stock clocked cards!
Re: Reviews - Scan 3XS Cyclone PC - first with watercooled GeForce GTX 480
72C?
not right, the highest you see even further overclocked WC'ed 480's hit is 59C

There's no mention of whether this is at stock voltage.
My Zotac reference model, w/c GTX 480 has folding 24/7 and under 66% load and has been steady at 56 Degrees. If that's only at 66% utilised, I see no reason why at 100%, and possibly a higher Core voltage the card shouldn't top out at 72 Degrees. Seems very reasonable to me...

The best way to know this is to head to a review of the GTX 480 - http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=24925 - and compare away. :)
By the way, the GPU hits 59°C when running Call of Duty: MW2 for 20 minutes.

no excuse for blocking all the expansion slots with the WC loop

Running what? We are using furmark with everything turned up to the max, 3dmark on the other hand doesnt put as much stress over the GPU!
:)

First of all, 8 posts in two years..enough said really.
And the expansion slots aren't blocked. The tubes for the loop are at the top of the card, plenty of space beneath the tubing to allow for more tech goodies to be added.
