I dont agree with it being a cheap trick especially seeing as it wasnt really holding back as games are usually released on thursday/friday anyway.
I think from the POV of Valve as the owner of steam it was a masterstroke the potatoe sack as they knew People wanted portal 2 and by "bribing" the Portal 2 fans to buy some indie games they managed to get people playing some games they would never have tried before, Gave the Indie developers a profit shot which will hopefully mean we`ll see more great indie games :D

^ In the long term, it's not a great idea to upset paying fans though. It's debatable whether it is cheap or not, but are those who feel cheated going to stop at just leaving negative reviews? Probably a great idea, implemented poorly.
Re: Articles - Portal 2 backlash: Critic reviews vs. user reviews
I ignored the whole potato early release thing - mainly due to the fact I'd pre-ordered a retail copy so it wasn't going to get me it any earlier! That said, I did kind of like the 'relevance' of it based on the game content (potato mainly!).
Game arrived today and I spent around 7 hours completing the solo campaign. At £22 for the game, I'm pretty happy at the value, working out at £3 per hour. Hopefully the co-op campaign will be just as fun. Far better value that Crysis 2 (which is so bug ridden it's a joke) and indeed Black Ops (overpriced with far less content, imho).
I have to say that I much preferred Portal 2 over Portal 1. I thought the puzzles and levels were better, although I think there is a huge difference in difficulty with those at the start easier than Portal 1, with those at the end much more difficult.
I bought Portal 2 with a vague idea of what I'd get. Valve have exceeded expectations. So I'm happy :clapping:
Re: Articles - Portal 2 backlash: Critic reviews vs. user reviews
To be honest everybody who bought the Potato sack just to release portal 2 earlier need a lesson in how to deal with money.
Why buy a product if it serves no use, or no long term use. I had most of the potato sack games anyway, since I enjoy those games. But I would never buy a game I didn't want. That's just plain stupid.
Besides I know people who complain about the P2 dlc etc. The fact is, you don't have to buy the dlc. It doesn't fragment the player base meaning they can't play with each other. So buy it if you want, don't if you don't.
Short campaign. I'm sure some of these people are rushing it to prove a point!

Is it just me or is anyone else confused why EA seem to do some the publishing work for this game? The official trailer on youtube is upped by EA and you hear so much about EA working with valve etc..

EA is the retail distributor, Valve is the online distributor.

Was wondering how EA came into it, cheers for that. I still hate EA with a passion though, never liked them or their attitude to gamers.
