Something's afoot. Portal 2 scores well with critics but averagly for gamers.

If they don't score it well they get no more review games. I expect that will be the main reason.

Those idiots didnt get robbed. They paid for a bunch of quality Indie titles, and that's what they got. At no point should people expect anything for free or anything ridiculously early released. As Totalbiscuit put in his latest audioblog, people paid for quality Indie games and that's what they got, if they got Portal 2 1 month or 1 minute early, they got a bonus.

For all the reasons you've stated, I will be buying Portal 2 and I will be enjoying it. I dont care how they market it, a 4-7 hour single player campaign, plus a solid co-op campaign is easily worth the price.

Jay, Have a listen to this:
    http://www.cynicalbrit.com/cb-blog/h...es-journalism/

The whole concept of rate a product highly or you dont get a review copy again doesn't hold up any more, as the public tend to listen to people with honest critical reviews and opinions, rather than yesmen.

How many of them played the original?

Did people buy it expecting Half-Life 32 or something?

I've been reviewing games for five years and not once has anyone ask for a favourable review or expected it. I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm sure most website reviewers will have the same experience. I've slagged off a few games over the years and the publishers aren't that concerned as long as you're covering their product.

Re: Articles - Portal 2 backlash: Critic reviews vs. user reviews

TBH it was a bit of a cheap trick, holding back Portal 2's release, when it was already finished, just to sell more of the Potato rubbish (which were probably good game, but I had no interest in them). I just ignored the "ARG rubbish", and just waited for the eventual release.

The last game I preordered was "Medal of Honor" and so far the campaign of Portal 2 has been massively better and longer, while at the same time being a few quid cheaper. I knew what Portal 1 was like, and I'm pretty happy with Portal 2, considering my expectations. No way is the game a 95%er like the "pro" reviews say, but I never expected it to be, it's a solid game, that in no way I have felt ripped off for.

Portal 2 doesn't seem that hard, there's been no bits that have "impossible", probably at the right sort of difficulty I reckon.

I was the opposite. I still haven't bought Portal 2, but I really enjoyed the ARG mystery and puzzle solving - it really added extra enjoyment to titles I already owned but hadn't had reason to pick up for a while.

And this is why I have not bought portal 2 yet, as I played portal liked it but it didn't give me enough game time to justify a full price game so I shall wait until in a years time I can buy it for 10 pounds, then it will be a bargin. Though finding someone to play the co-op with me might be harder at that point however I will factor that into the price I pay.

On an interesting note, there is a Portal 2 advert on the bus shelter near my home, interesting they are buying main stream advertising as well.

i am on chapter 9 and so far loving portal 2 it carries on well from the first and the puzzles are challenging but not impossible (the occasional headscratch is rquired)

Definitely not a 63% game maybe not a 90+ either i'd give it 88-89% although thats without touching co-op yet.

I completed it today. Was actually pretty pleased with it.

I'd give it 85%, however i am unable to test co-op.

This was the 4Chan army. To be fair, I didn't like the fact that they said "buy this potatoe bundle, and it MIGHT get released early..." No ****ing chance. I've already spent £29.99.

Whatever Valve was doing associating with EA on this is beyond me.
