I feel a bit like i'm a teacher in a large class, watching the kid who works hard but gets a 'C' and you know can do better.

well the performance GPU really are "GREAT" knocked out any onboard VGA and a little bit fall behind add on vga card. this is Great!

Spot on. Without this, they would be struggling, and we would be worse of without at least some competition. It's an interesting product, and I suspect for most uses more than 'good enough'.
Still looking forward to CPU FP offloaded to the GPU some day...

Not impressed, though the benchmarks are all over the place again. Most other sites found it to be really good in battery life but that's what happens when you give out test systems. Sometimes I think AMD's marketing dept is paid by intel.

I have heard that Microsoft may still be adjusting the scheduler however, may be worth waiting at least for the release candidate.
What insect or aninmal are they going to dub this with?
It doesn't help key staff keep leaving AMD so its amazing material ever appears.
Wouldn't mind seeing more tablets from AMD soon.
Still impressed with my HP AMD laptop of a number of years.
I can throw virtual machines at it no problem so these new CPU's will hopefully cope with that too.
Hexus was comparing a 35W TDP Trinity with a 45W TDP Llano.

The fact is that due to the use of the module approach,multi-threaded performance has been traded for single threaded performance.
Moreover the 35W A10 has managed to catch up with the 35W SB based Core i5-2410M dual core with HT for video encoding(around 10% slower in the first pass and 5% slower in the second pass). Not bad for a 2.3GHZ to 3.2GHZ AMD part to catch up with a 2.3GHZ to 2.9GHZ Intel Core i5 dual core.

I thought piledriver was meant to have a second FPU in each module making it more akin to cores than modules? Im probably wrong, recall reading it awhile ago... I think AMD just need to bide their time really and this does exactly that, as soon as the industry gets to the point that GPGPU is the norm (as in EVERYWHERE) then AMD have won, its clear their onboard GPUs destroy everything in regards to performance per watt and with the average performance of their cpus (hindered by their FPU?) then the GPU can finally take that slack being the FP power house.
Yep it's "not bad" I suppose but the gap isn't closing I fear. Anyway this has basically made up my mind and I much to my chagrin I just went and bought a 2500K which I will overclock the hell out of and make it last a couple of years. Hopefully Steamroller will put AMD back where they belong but they are running out of chances.
Looking at some of the results,single thread IPC of Trinity is probably a tad better overall than Bulldozer(if you consider that mobile chipsets are used) for desktop,while the CPU clocks higher and consumes less power. Remember Trinity has no L3 cache and the same amount of L2 cache when compared to Bulldozer.
I also expect the 100W TDP A10-5800K will be faster than the 95W TDP FX4100 and probably close to a 125W TDP FX4170.
I suspect Vishera probably will have around 10% to 20% higher single thread IPC overall than Bulldozer,but clocking higher for the same TDP and power consumption. So around 20% to 30% higher overall performance is what I think the IPC+increased clocks of the FX8350 will yield over the FX8150. Hence,in multi-threaded stuff the FX8350 probably will catch up with the IB Core i7 CPUs IMHO.
However,for gaming the Core i5 2500K will still be ahead as lightly threaded performance will probably be better.
The thing is though I get the feeling the same was said about Llano and Zacate being failures by many enthusiasts too. However,in reality this was not the case and the same probably will happen with Trinity. I just get the feeling when you see the backgrounds of the CEO and CTO I see AMD moving more and more towards providing products which OEMs want.
So I see the higher end desktop enthusiast market being in Intel's court now onwards IMHO.

Would be nice to give charts in terms of GPU vs GPU not laptop vs laptop. Granted you aren't testing the GPU with the same CPU, but it's easier to digest than a bunch of random laptops.
Yeah in its current form the charts aren't terribly easy to make sense of...
The desktop chip reviews will probably make more sense whenever they're released.
From Hexus' review I'm not too impressed by its performance - but that may have been because I underestimated Intel with their iGPU (HD4000) and hoped for too much from AMD. It's fair to say that both Intel and AMD have upped their game in the iGPU departments again with both of them showing up to 50% gains. Obviously for Intel this is less in absolute terms as the HD3000 was much weaker, but in relative terms we can't deny that both have done well. On top of that AMD has managed to create something very power efficient too.
Personally I'd like to see AMD compete a bit with Intel in the "ultra portable laptops (ultrabooks/ultrathins/sleekbooks)" market but I'm not sure how profitable it is as most people either buy a MacBook Air if they want portable or a netbook if they've got a low budget with low requirements.
