I'm so glad prices are getting this low, this is without a doubt the best performance product you can buy for your pc in this day and age...

Re: Reviews - SanDisk Extreme SSD (240GB)

Had one of these for a couple of months now and have been very impressed with the drive. (Not impressed that its over £50 cheaper than when I bought it already though but great news for others).

I went for that one based on the strength of the 120GB review on Hexus knowing that the extra mem chips would make it even faster. Got the 120GB one for my girlfriend as she was on a bit more of a budget.

The other deciding factor was that it uses Toggle Mode NAND and to get that in any other SSD is a considerable premium.

The Samsung 830 256gb has dropped a fair few pounds in price today as well. Let the price wars begin!

I have never bought any SSD for myself ever. Maybe now that prices are going down and down, I can get to try buying one of this SanDisk SSD!

I was looking at the 256GB Crucial M4 but the SanDisk is £15 cheaper atm, don't know if that's enough to sway me

I did my HTPC build 6 months back with a 60 gig OCZ Vertxx and it is fantastic. Makes switching it on and off feel like an appliance rather than an old-fashioned PC - i.e. it boots quicker than Virgin Vbox. Only worry I have is using it for recording iplayer or from the USB freeview recorder, which might thrash the drive - luckily my little old USB2 external drive copes OK with that duty passably.

Re: Reviews - SanDisk Extreme SSD (240GB)

Presumably these drives are still profitable to sell at these greatly reduced prices. We are told that most of the cost of manufacture for these drives is the cost of flash memory chips. They've been using 25nm flash chips for over a year, why have prices fallen suddenly only now ? Were the manufacturers operating a cartel ? So much for free-market competition.

I have just bought a new Vertex 4, am hoping that the newer Indilinix/Marvel offering will provide more tangible real world results in the long term. time will tell if I made a mistake!

Re: Reviews - SanDisk Extreme SSD (240GB)

Thinking about getting the 128gb version...I hope it has the same performance as the 250gb. Nonetheless, getting SSD is very tempting.

Yes the 120GB version looks tempting right now. However, it might be worth waiting for the firmwear issues to be resolved?
