The best of the APU range?
The CAT has just burst into treats somewhere.
Wow! That is much more efficient than the A10-5800K!
This is the pick of the chips yes. Perfect for a small low-power HTPC without a graphics card. Now...where are the mini itx mobos goddamit!
Now we are talking :)
Perfectly matched with a PicoPSU.
As the two above, perfect for a media PC paired with a mini-itx mobo and and PicoPSU, stock please!
BTW,thanks to the review team for covering the A10-5700 unlike many other websites.
Now if AMD would send them the A6-5400K, we could see how it does against the G630 and the like!!
Brilliant price, brilliant performance considering the price, TDP etc etc
What more does Hexus need ! - personally think this deserves a 4.5 or 5 star rating.
Well it was always likely to get half a star more than the K parts I feel...maybe 4 is right for me but 4 1/2 wouldn't have been undeserved either. The loss of the star is wholly down to it's gaming performance with a discrete card.
I'd consider it 4 1/2 for HTPC, and 4 for just a quiet low-power desktop. Obviously if you just look at the chips themselves sans-discrete card, it's quite a bit more compelling than the £110 i3 3225.
This is definitely more of what I was hoping for from AMD. If I built a new HTPC now I would definitely pick this CPU.
Sadly the price on Scan doesn't seem to sit between the 5600K and the 5800K. It's only £3 more to get the 5800K over the 5700 :(
I wonder how many people will go with this due to the lower TDP.
Anyone seen any undervolting / underclocking on these chips yet?
The 5700 is the best chip of the bunch - it should really cost more than the 5800K.
Great review Tarinder, many thanks. Love that Hexus go to the effort to review so many AMD chips with the new releases. For me the only lack is a set of power draw figures for the overclocked settings: would've been nice to see how much extra power draw that improved gaming performance cost!
Got to agree with everyone else that this is the best of the bunch so far: near i3 CPU performance, but a different class in IGP performance. For a general purpose + modest gaming machine (with some 1866MHz memory on board) it's an absolute winner.
It also shows how horribly inept AMD's marketing is. They believe that the very small performance increase of the 5800K is worth showcasing over the perf/watt of the 5700. How can that be? This is clearly the better chip - ok it's not the fastest but if any company should realise the value of perf/watt and overall goodness it should be AMD. They've been losing marks in every review because of the mediocre cpu performance and pretty horrible power draw of the 5800K, while getting plaudits for the graphics performance. Had they led with the 5700 they'd be losing marks for mediocre cpu performance while getting plaudits for graphics and excellent power characteristics.
Truly they are their own worst enemy time after time. The extra performance of the 5800K in no way makes up for the extra power draw. They both have their place obviously, but they should be pushing the 5700 as their best chip when it clearly is.
TBH,the only area where the CPU performance of the A10 is really behind a Core i3, is for gaming in lightly thread situations. Outside of that it is pretty competitive in many realworld situations using newer extensions.
What the F is the point of using an APU with a discrete GPU?!? (besides the hybrid crossfire stuff ofcourse)
