Re: Reviews - Sapphire AMD Radeon HD 7790
What would be really useful is if you had a 6 Series Radeon in this review for comparison. Anybody looking to upgrade to a 7 series Radeon is most likely going to have an older (most likely) 5 or 6 series card and it would be great to know if the card you are reviewing is actually worthwhile!

Which 6-series card would you like in the line-up? I'm thinking HD 6870 makes most sense?

Very good review Tarinder - good balance of technical and 'what it means for the end user'. Thanks for making the point about power consumption and 800W PSUs ;)
Re: Reviews - Sapphire AMD Radeon HD 7790
Enjoyed the review, still loving those frame rate/time graphs. Particularly enjoyed the comment about PSU power, very important point for consumers to understand.

I think the chart for Far Cry 3 on the "Overclocking" page is wrong. The results are exactly the same as the one on the "Far Cry 3" page, with stock clocks.

I'm going to guess that a 6870 is pretty close to the 7790.
EDIT: Just seen review elsewhere including a 6870, it's typically behind but not that far depending on the game. It's only way behind in the games a 6870 has always had odd performance in e.g. Dirt (so would expect the same in Skyrim with AA). Interestingly the 6870 was ahead in Crysis Warhead, so if you do retest using a 6870 then it would be nice to see if that translates at all into your Crysis 3 test.
I wouldn't call the difference significant enough, if you have a 6870 and are looking to upgrade I'd still be looking at a 7850 minimum.

Yes a 6870 would make the most sense as the middle 6 series card. Don't mean to pick at the review so please don't think I'm being negative, just thought it's a useful point as I have a 6 series and had no refernce point! :)

Why don't these GPU makers understand that cards in this performance segment should/need to be priced at £99.

They do. This is just the early adopter margin.
Re: Reviews - Sapphire AMD Radeon HD 7790
Nice GPU, but pricing is bad...
Re: Reviews - Sapphire AMD Radeon HD 7790
Just tested and added the HD 6870 1GB to the graphs. It loses out to the Sapphire HD 7790 OC in six of the seven performance benchmarks (HD 6870 wins in Crysis 3, by the way) and also isn't so good when evaluated over power, temp and noise metrics.
HD 7790 is a better card, really, but let's remember that the HD 6870 has now been depreciated to around the same price - £115.

Early adopters.? for a not very exciting budget card, I hardly think there's an eager queue of people just lining up to be taken advantage of here because they cant wait to get their hands on such a low key GPU, that only applies to the exciting high end stuff.
Re: Reviews - Sapphire AMD Radeon HD 7790
It seems that the HD7850 1GB is being replaced by the HD7790 1GB!
The memory chips for the HD7850 1GB are supposedly not being made any more.

Nearly all tech comes in at a higher price then settles at a lower one before continuing to decline. But anyway this is not a budget card - for the vast majority of the market this is a high performance card.
