Post ATI's Radeon X700 XT Preview

I spent some time with ATI's new mid-range parts recently. Based on their new RV410 ASIC and initially launced on PCI Express, the new X700 range fills the gap between X600 and X800 and provides NVIDIA's new GeForce 6600-series of cards with a new nemesis.

Our first look focusses on the XT variant, the version that's at the top of this particular pile. Here's a snippet.

ATI's new mid-range power-house has arrived with a significant splash. Effectively dropping R420 (well, R423 with its native PCI Express interface) onto TSMC's 110nm process, chopping half the fragment shaders out and halving the memory bus width, has enabled ATI to create the cost-effective, powerful mid-range part that they wanted.

Check out the full article, including comparison to an X700 PRO reference board, here.
