I'm intrigued by this, it might make a good media server and back-up location for the less tech savvy (e.g. parents). Though I can't quite tell what the built-in back-up capabilities are like.

Wondering the same thing. Synology have a brilliant backup piece of software, Netgears is not very good and D-Link is pretty poor too. I use SyncBack now , as the options are vast but simple at the same time.

The software it uses to backup is called WD Smartware and there is a Pro version too. http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=940

Here is a video about it. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gH9Qj57PPgA
