Re: Reviews - Nvidia Shield Tablet
Device looks solid enough (although a gamepad should be bundled by default for a "gaming tablet"), but let's be honest - the article isn't a review. Not by a long shot. It's a barebones first-impressions piece with a bunch of nVidia slides and promo photos, and I'll not lie, reading the first couple of paragraphs, I almost thought I'd stumbled upon an advertorial for a device that isn't out for another 3 weeks. Even PCPer, who have the only benchmark numbers I've seen for the device, have said the article is just a preview/announcement.
Re: Reviews - Nvidia Shield Tablet
Looks interesting, but it kinda kills the idea of portable gaming for me if you have to carry the controller too.
Re: Reviews - Nvidia Shield Tablet
If you could get the GameStream to work with AMD cards I would be interested. Being nVidia card exclusive means a no from me :(

This product fixes at least two of those. I'll probably buy it through a mate in the US though as then tablet, controller and cover costs the same as the tablet alone in the UK. Bit sad that the controller couldn't be used with a PC so when the tablet eventually gets thrown out I'm stuck with a useless controller.
aaaand just did buy it. Here's hoping it's good :D

Assuming you're already in the nVidia ecosystem to make use of streaming from your main PC, you'll be pleased with your purchase.
Android gaming still isn't on a par with ios, no matter how nVidia want to drive it to be. Streaming makes up for it though.
Re: Reviews - Nvidia Shield Tablet
So, after making a point that this "review" seemed like an advertorial 3 days ago, I've just seen it jump to the top of the front page, with no discernible update to the content. I'm guessing nVidia's cheque cleared?
Re: Reviews - Nvidia Shield Tablet
This looks like an interesting idea but I just don't think it'll make much of an impact in an already crowded market. But yeah, I'd like to know more about it, that article doesn't really give enough to draw any real conclusions.
Re: Reviews - Nvidia Shield Tablet
Ok, so lovely tablet, just useless for gaming on the go. They should have done another AIO with updated hardware and a lower price point.
Re: Reviews - Nvidia Shield Tablet
Does anyone know if the Shield Portable is ever going to be officially released in the UK?
There is a couple on Amazon, fulfilled by Amazon, but it doesn't feel 'right' when the company hasn't officials launched it in this country.
My original DS is finally kicking it and I'm feeling like something different!
Re: Reviews - Nvidia Shield Tablet
Ticks a lot of my boxes. Will look forward to some hands on reviews!
Re: Reviews - Nvidia Shield Tablet
NVIDIA has no plans to launch the Shield Portable in the UK, especially now that the Shield tablet has been launched.

Surely Steam\'s streaming service would be a better bet? Only a matter of time until it comes to android.

But it's useful to know that if you get one from the US, it works fine over here :-)
You can't use nVidia grid without some hoop-jumping and you wouldn't want to because of the latency involved, but that might change when the UK grid comes online for the tablet
Edit: only thing you'll need is a micro USB charger with a UK plug

Thanks. I'll chew on that for the time being.
Re: Reviews - Nvidia Shield Tablet

Pretty much, yep. However, the nVidia cards mentioned as being compatible have an in-built hardware encoder to facilitate streaming. In theory, this makes it a little easier to stream over slower (read: wireless) networks, but in practice, my 5-year-old laptop can stream wirelessly just fine through Steam, from both AMD and nVidia rigs.
