    Nice looking system though my only comment would be for best part of £1200 quid I would not expect to lose 2 USB3 ports at the rear to power the front ones, would expect a motherboard with a header on for that.

    Good to see Scan responding directly - and taking your advice on board too!

    Better be careful Hexus - with such great power comes great responsibility

    James was an absolute master over at Custom PC. Really glad he's still keeping up the great work over at Scan!

    It's happened Scan's 3XS system reviews on HEXUS in the past, as far as I can remember it gets overlooked, perhaps in relation to the partnership?

    In fairness though, it's because the card reader uses the only USB 3 header, and motherboards with 2 USB 3 headers aren't that common. I'd probably sacrifice the decrease in speeds of a seldom used card reader and adapt down to a USB 2 header, I suppose this isn't the case for most Scan customers.

    Re: Reviews - Scan 3XS Z97 Performance Q10

    Hi Guys,

    Thanks for the good feedback, ref the USB3 cable... its one of those things that we have to make the best out of an unideal situation.

    To confirm the problem simply exists because the front card reader and front chassis ports both have an internal USB3 cable... the board only has a single header. The solutions are;

    Install a board with 2 headers... you then get 4 functional ports, no unsightly cables round the back (until everything else is plugged in) however it will cost significantly more (£30 inc VAT)
    Convert and connect to an internal USB3 header... not ideal, and confusing for the customer, in our opinion if its blue it should operate at USB3 speeds.
    Route the cable out side of the chassis... No additional cost, all front ports operate at USB3 and still leaves 2 USB3 ports on the rear. Yes it looks a little unsightly but once everything else is plugged in round the back it isn't really going to matter.

    Obviously this is all in our own opinion, and as our 3XS systems are built to order we are more than happy to either install a board with 2 ports or convert to USB2 should a client require.

    Cheers
