You do need to make sure the games are stable wrt performance though - each Witcher 3 patch is having quite an effect on framerate at the moment.

This is it. Hexus are overly concerned with how current cards compare, but those considering upgrading from a GTX 560 TI to a GTX 970, for example, have to use mere guesswork. How much have drivers improved things? Have games really moved on? Would I actually see much in the way of an improvement?

It's nice to know where a Titan stands compared to a GTX 980, but I'm never, ever going to be in the market for one.

I realise it would entail a lot of work, but I'm sorry to say that I imagine that the current charts are bordering on useless for most Hexus readers. Even if a couple of the benchmarks used historical results, where they weren't tested with the latest drivers, it would be more beneficial than the current system.

Even if a couple of cards spanning a couple of generations were kept back, we could at least compare their results from back in the day to get a rough known quantity.

In all fairness, if they did include one or two older cards, there would be other people on complaining that its a pointless comparison so they can't win. There are the synthetic benchmarks you can use for comparison not to mention -

For mid range cards then, yeah, I'd agree older cards would be good for comparison but not at this level.

I agree that a 780Ti would have been a good benchmark comparison card being the "second-rung" card from the previous generation. I suspect many 780Ti owners will be considering a 980Ti.

They need to implement an entry into the tables with a drop down menu where you can select an older card. That way you don't need to have a ton of legacy options, it keeps the size the same, and everybody can see how their card matches up

It's a good card and step in the right direction compared to the Titans on price, but I can still buy three R9 290's for this money... and a pair will beat this comfortably in most situations.... it's 17% more the launch price of the 780Ti.

Also you'll need a PSU to power those 3 R290s, unless you already have one that has 6x6PCIe connectors!
