    Asetek VapoChill XE

I'm addicted to phase change now, Asetek will have to prise this unit from my cold, dead, R404a chilled hands. The performance and new ChillControl make VapoChill'ing an attractive proposition for the hardcore enthusiast with deep pockets.

Good job, as for feedback :-

    1. Testing it with a P4 as well would have been useful

    2. A direct comparison with a Prometia mach 2 would be good, a face-off style review, as they are very much in direct competition

    3. Sort out the double post on the front page

    4. Sort out the typo and the strange link selection in this bit ', and why not comment on it int he forums?' at the end of the front page post

    5. Take case temperature readings for aircooling and phasechange, all that heat being pumped externally should reduce case temperatures, but by how much?

    6. Keep up the good work

Also, how much power does it require? Will us poor little hexites have to upgrade our PSU's? I think it's something the review should at least mention.

Nice insight with the intro, a few things that I was not quite sure of cleared up there thx.

Just one niggle though, I could be totally blind but what GFX card did you use to get to you 20k? was it at defaults or 640*480 etc.
I'm guessing it was at 640*480 but i just wanna make sure lol

P.S. I think its still in the old formating may need Iain's parser

I've got a P4 kit for some upcoming P4 testing, but that didn't make it into the article. As for PSU, you need something that'll give you a strong 12V rail, but nothing mad. Something of good quality, 350W or above I'd say.

If I had a Mach II, I'd have compared. As it stands, Asetek and Chip-Con don't really like sites doing head to heads, so it's hard to wangle that.

As for the 3DMark 2001SE score, that was a default bench at 1024x768 with an FX5900 Ultra. 640x480 indeed!

I'll link to the project as soon as FutureMark stops their maintenance thingy.

Also, I've since managed to get a little more out of it, with the help of a chilly evening with the window open, up here in Scotland, to get some colder air over the condensor site.

Not bad for a creaky old AMD box eh?

At 2781MHz? 50.xx seconds for HEXUS Pifast is about all she'd run stable.

The stable speed is around 2730, as mentioned in the review.

    Here's the 3DMark project.

If you want a full run of numbers done, I'll have a prod and see what it'll do.

That flies - imagine if AMD cores carried the same high clock frequencies of the intel solutions.

    Noise?

Nice review. What I would like to know is how much noise it makes? Is it even close to quite? I know my fridge makes quite a lot of noise but it is old and rubbish.

I am intersted in it to build an overclocked silent machine with the stand-alone version of the XE.

    Thanks,
    Bhozar

As noted in the article, it's quiet. The fridge like buzz disappears after the startup phase, then all you can really hear is the condensor fan, which isn't too bad, even at full speed.

It's a lot less noisy than I was expecting, and a pleasant surprise. It's not silent however, if you really are searching for something your ears will never hear.

Sorry if I missed it but how much better really is this compared to the PE performance wise and is a prommy Mach II gonna kick its arse.
