For future motherboard tests could you include a DPC latency measure? This is quite a critical measure for some people and helps show up how well written some of the drivers and extra gubbins (like software power controls) are.

I purchased this board, but wanted to make sure it will work with this cpu, before opening it.

You should be fine. Haswell-E is Haswell-E. Same chipset, same socket. You could check the Asus pages to confirm but I can't see there being a problem.

Personally after attempting to use Asus support I suggest you return it and go for a better supported manufacturer.

The heat-sinks on this board look pretty inefficient.

Stock manufacturer heatsinks are not designed or intended for massive independent heat reduction. They are solely there to increase the passive heat extraction and dispersion for either passive cooling or to benefit from transient airflow over the sinks from the normal case fans. If you are in the market for significant modification of the chips affected by these sinks, there are specialists that make aftermarket version (you can find them on the manufacturer specific forums pretty easily) or you can have custom sinks machined for your needs. There are a plethora of design programs (both free and paid) that you can get to design your desired heatsinks and send them off to special shops or maker spaces have the heatsinks made.

What issues did you experience with ASUS that turned you off from them so significantly that you advocate using a different manufacturer? Genuinely curious. I've built a number of different systems using Gigabyte, ASUS and EVGA mobos but have luckily never had a problem with them even when significantly tweaking/oc'ing a few. As such I have not had to deal with customer/technical support for any of the mentioned though a forewarning of issues could be worthwhile for the future should I ever have that unfortunate need.

Been using Asus stuff for years and never had a problem but I am in the dilemma of which mobo to with next.... and this one seem like a good candidate, not hat I am all for the flashy lightning or whichever, that does not really interest me, but I am looking for something with performance.

Generally you'll find incompatibilities with older boards and new CPUs rather than the other way around. Newer CPUs tend to need a BIOS update on older boards to add support for CPU initialisation. But on the inverse code for bootstrapping older CPU generations is almost always incorporated into newer boards already.
