Surely a decent case with a 140mm or even better 200mm exhaust fan would move the heat out quickly? This massive open-air cooler is only likely to be a problem when going dual card.

The DVI ports blocks a lot of the potential exhaust too, surely a DP<>DVI adapter would have been a better choice.

Why? The reference designs have been overheating and thus throttling in all kinds of reviews. They're also really noisy because the fan is running so fast. That extra 5-10 degrees C isn't going to bother your other components at all.

You're getting your cards confused. The DVI ports only restricts airflow on the reference designs- which exhaust out of the rear where the ports are located. This is obviously not a reference design and the DVI port isn't in the way of anything.

Aye but I don't know of a case that doesn't have at least 1 exhaust area that sits just next to where the CPU typically is.

The size of graphics card coolers is becoming ridiculous, rather like American cars of the sixties and seventies. Big is good, bigger is better, biggest is best, except it isn't, more efficient is better.

The vast majority of cases will fit them, and several slow fans is quieter and moves more air than a single fast fan. Keeping the chip cooler slightly reduces resistance, so if it were run at the same clockspeeds you could expect a card with an aftermarket cooler to use less power than a card with the stock cooler - improving efficiency!

No need to worry about exhausting air if you pick the right kit. I use a Cooler Master HAF XB with 2 Noctua 140mm fans connected to BitFenix fan controller.

The reference cards have always been terrible.

This card has settled in at $750 USD here in the States, so in my opinion it's well worth the $50 premium over the loud, hot, non-DVI FE edition. Plus it has a 4 year warranty, 1 full year longer than the competition. Someone recently compared it to the "new" Titan XP and it was only a few fps slower- so the XP is a foolish gaming choice no matter how rich you may be. Take the $450 price difference, throw in another $300, and SLI this bad boy. In that setup, Titan WHO?!
