I would take points off for losing one port if you want to charge it and having to cart around a separate Ethernet adaptor.
Wifi has advanced enough to not need ethernet on a laptop anymore, except for specialist use like programming stuff.
DDR3 still? Why are Ultrabooks not sporting DDR4? Am I missing something?
That battery life though!
Why, when this exists:

The thinkpad E470 is almost the same size (15mm wider, 24mm deeper, 6mm thicker), same CPU, same storage, DDR4 RAM, discrete GPU and half the price.
OTOH, when you aren't charging you effectively gain a USB port
Not sure what the strong desire is to have touchscreens on non 2in1 laptop solutions? I had it with my Transformer and actually it only made sense to use because Android is terrible with its "mouse pointer".
I have a touch screen laptop, hate using non-touch laptops now....I keep using my fingers and nothing happens!
I have used thinkpad laptops since they were still branded as IBM, I currently use an L540 in work and they are amazingly well built machines. I would love to replace it with ones of these but my boss would murder me when he seen the price.
Wifi technology has, but not all routers have said technology. I've been using an adaptor for years now, its pretty annoying but at the same time, there are benefits. One example, regular disconnecting/reconnecting of RJ45s will eventually wear out the connector. At least using an adapter, you can just buy a new one rather than having to repair the device.
Looks like it could be a good contender to replace my ageing Sony Vaio S carbon fibre 13" laptop.
Long time reader, first time poster here.
I really don't see how a touch screen could be considered a missing key feature on this laptop.
If you want a touch screen, you don't buy the X1 Carbon, you get the Lenovo X1 Yoga (2nd gen. came the same time as the 5th gen. carbon)
The X1 Yoga is pretty much exactly the same computer as the X1 Carbon.
Only difference is you can flip the screen all the way to the back of the computer, and it has the touch screen.
It's a bit heavier because of touch and hinges, but that's it.
When considering that, I can't see why you would need a touch screen on the normal Carbon.
Great review. Lack of bloatware is because it's a Windows Signature built - worth pointing this out on this (and other) reviews.
Love my X1 - battery life is mental considering i've got 2 databases, onedrive for business and other stuff chugging constantly in the background. Use with the lenovo thunderbolt dock has been faultless too - 2x 27" displays (1x 4k one 2.7K).
It really is a lovely machine - having interchangable power and docks with my home laptop (Dell 7370) is fantastic.
I tried to buy this with the hi res screen. Waited 2 + week to be told stuck in manufacturing. No ETA. Cancelled and hoping for a refund!
Woeful customer service having dropped nearly 2k for it! Apparently Lenovo are notorious for this.
Found one slightly lower spec with Norwegian keyboard. They are like hens teeth these things.
