    Re: Razer Phone

    "Reasonable price for premium handset"

700 pounds for a dim lit screen with mediocre battery and a poor camera?!

Really?! You even say that the paint is about to rub-off of it!

From what I've heard the battery life is strong, so not sure where you're getting that from?

    Re: Razer Phone

Compared to the Huawei Mate 10Pro I know which I'd go for and it wouldn't be the Razer. This is a seriously niche device and really I don't think it will do at all well at this kind of price level. I would expect to see big price cuts next few months.

    Re: Razer Phone

I have been looking for a phone with good stereo output speakers to replace my ageing HTC M9 that is starting to show the signs of corporate death-by-design.

This phone looks like the one in all honesty. I have computers, consoles, tablets etc. for all my heavier workloads. Now aside from the obvious phone functions and a bit of facebook checking on the go, my phone is essentially a music player, so this actually looks great for me! I agree though, I am probably quite a rare case in regards to people who would actually want this phone considering the price tag and what else you could get for that, should your usage scenarios be more general.

GSM Arena only got 6 hours from a full charge and plenty of other sites have said the battery life is terrible.
Also the screen is supposed to be barely viewable outdoors.
Top it of with a very poor camera for a £700 flagship device then it's not looking too good for Razer.
Mate 10 Pro is a far better device for the same money.

    Re: Razer Phone

Nice premium phone but games wise why bother, android games just don't matter to that niche.

Razer have to build an ecosystem or tie into an existing one it's customers use like Steam, Xbox, Twitch (once that becomes another platform).

They did neither with the phone, no games that have cross play with above networks so there is little reason even to buy.

I wonder if they could integrate a physical razor so you could shave with it! They could advertise it as the phone for the "man on the move!"

Dude, I had an M9 and loved every bit of it except for one part, the camera lag. I really liked the speakers and so on. Due to the absolute requirement for a headphone jack I went for the S8 and, unless that speaker set up is critical I'd honestly seriously consider it. Yes, you'll need a case as they made the bugger out of glass. But, equally I found that I really didn't miss the speaker set up that much - there's just only so much you can extract from a phone's body due to the driver size and resonance chamber limitations.

I use my phone for everything electronic, so it's a camera, music player, web browser, video player and so on. The only downside on Samsung is the bloatware and it's bloatware in it's most supreme form. I use an app to disable most of it and it's not too bad now. There has been a recent update which has addressed the battery issues as well. Honestly, the screen is so awesome, even compared to the M9 and the headphone sound is more than adequate especially when you download the extra sound enhancement pack.

As I'm sure you're aware, HTC is not one to buy right now and that's a crying shame as I had some amazing HTC phones right back to my teen years and only once regretted a HTC purchase out of many, many phones. I'd really consider whether you really want that external sound set up as much as you think as this was one of the things that brought me to the M9 and I really have not missed it at all. I just got a cheap bluetooth speaker for the garage and kitchen and that does me just fine for when I want a bit more oomph. The rest of the time, it's all headphones. Plus the earphones that come with the S8, whilst not worth the £100 or whatever silly price they amke out, are actually damned good. They're not as good as £100 headphones but they're near enough to be worth factoring in and also pretty robust.

Honestly, seriously consider the S8, especially given that it has been out long enough that you can really haggle them on price. Just use Package Disabler Pro (costs a quid or something) and you can disable all the bloatware you don't use (some of it is useful and I do regularly use it) without any rooting or anything.

If you have come from an M9 to either this or an S7, the diffrence is literally revolutionary. It's that much more responsive, sharp and so on. If you use your phone camera at all regularly then I'd again seriously consider the S8. You won't realise how bad the M9 is to use (results can be good and there's the 20MP that's good for more cropping) until you try one of these out properly - Anandtec showed the lag from the M9 can be as high as 1900ms whereas the S7 was about 80ms. The difference is stunning.

Also, just so you know, I'm no brand fanboy. I loved HTC and would have gladly bought another phone from them but when their most recent flagship came out with no headphone jack and made of glass I just couldn't buy it. It was all a compromise too far. If the S8 had a more robust case, a better battery (both the "active" version should feature) and less bloatware (easily mended) then it would be near perfect.

Also, from your description of what you use your phone for, I do wonder if you really need an expensive flagship? Sounds like a decent mid ranger might actually be better for you or, as suggested above, a cheaper S7 - they're still damned good phones.

    Re: Razer Phone

The LG G6 is £650. This is... poorer on every level that matters. The L6 is lighter, waterproof, higher resolution, with a better camera set, still has a headphone jack, supports higher quality audio, and though the battery's lower capacity it lasts longer. Who the heck would buy this at that money? It's only better for having a newer CPU/GPU, and so little uses that it's kinda pointless.

    Re: Razer Phone

Lack of Nvidia Shield tablet (you can't seem to buy the K1 for sane prices any more) leaves a gap in the portable Android gaming market, but this isn't going to fill it. If it had an Nvidia Tegra in it for £200 it might sell, specially if they could find a VR headset game it could excel at as the 120Hz screen would help there. My son has a Razer mouse, he is the only Razer customer in the house but I can't see him wanting this.

I think what we really need is a company that actually provides OS updates, people would pay extra for that.

Um the LG G6 hasn't been £650 for sometime now, grey imports have been as low as £310 in the past & that was for the better dual sim, DAC, 64Gb model. UK versions are currently retailing for around £350-400. But that's for the 32Gb model, still a better proposition than the Razor in my mind.

Does anything on a phone need 8GB or ram? The Nokia 8 has half that, but is already on Android 8 and is currently £400 with the same CPU.

Actually you can get it for as low as £359 currently which is a stonking deal.
