Review seems scewed, no MSi or alienware laptops to compare against?

    1) A 17" laptop and 15" laptop are fundamentally different products. If you want to move it regularly, go 15". If it'll live on your desk, go 17". Unsurprisingly, fitting the same kit into a smaller platform costs more
    2) That laptop is £100 more expensive, and has a boot SSD that's half the size of the reviewed model (admittedly, g-sync is a nice feature and probably explains the price difference) - what exactly is so terrible with the model that hexus reviewed?

    Re: PC Specialist Defiance XS

What about reading comments before replying just to seem intelligent like so much of the internet and competitive nit-picking that occurs online? If you had read my initial point I mentioned that seemingly the review is scewed. Of noteable absence is any Alienware or MSI laptops to compare against. That was my initial point.

You can take it a step further by what my comment was actually implying that the review is not as unbiased as I would expect from a quality site like Hexus. Seemingly when paid-for adverts happen on Youtube content providers have to explicitly state that "this video is sponsored by.." etc There appears to be an absence from this from any of the reviewing that occurs here lately, especially in high-value items that should warrant a much higher review standard!
I didn't want to state that for fear of a ban, but my friend, you leave me no choice!

I didn't respond to that bit, because the answer is obvious - if MSI&alienware want their laptops to be included in hexus review comparisons, then they need to send laptops to hexus for review. Last time that MSI sent in a laptop comparable to the reviewed model was mid 2015, and it was packing haswell and a 970M - and if hexus had included it in the comparison, you'd complain that they hadn't compared it to the latest MSI model.

Is your conspiracy theory literally just that hexus must be biased yellow journalism because they didn't go out and spend £3k on two brand new laptops to satisfy your brand fanboyism?

I'm stating that the review should state that it is 'paid for' like the adverts on Youtube. You are basically saying that we should buy this laptop as they sent one in to Hexus and we should not question why it is not reviewed against the market leaders? This site is turning into Fox news.

How are hexus supposed to compare this laptop to the "market leaders" if they haven't leant hexus a laptop to review? Even if they had, this laptop trounces any alienware laptop - according to the dell site, the cheapest 15" model with a 1070 costs £150 more and lacks the SSD, and high refresh rate screen, and has only 8 GB RAM, and has a 1 year warranty. When configured to match, the alienware model costs £1000 more than the PC specialist laptop! That's not a market leader - alienware offer utterly terrible value compared to this one. It looks like hexus know what they're talking about when they recommend a laptop!

Lending a product for a review is fundamentally different to paying for a review. Lending a product for a review is fundamentally different to giving a product in exchange for a review, which is what youtubers have to notify viewers about.

Your initial point is completely wrong. This is not a paid review, and you're incapable of finding any better laptop deal.

    Re: PC Specialist Defiance XS

@Troopa tbh I'd take that MSI you linked over the Asus ROG every time... despite my being an Asus fan (typing this on my trusty G751) Thing is, not only is the MSI cheaper, has a larger screen size and more RAM but even if all the hardware was equal between the two, that Asus is one of those trendy skinny laptops and with such hot running badass hardware in there it will throttle, no question. Which goes against the point of splashing so much on a laptop that can game at that level (you simply won't be gaming at that level for long) No, give me multiple fans and big heatsinks and vents any day, it may increase the weight but exercise between games is good for you.

Said trusty G751 has literally never throttled in the 28 months I've had it, not even when topping 80 C. Sure, with a 4720HQ and 970m it can't keep up in newer games but still, what I do run I can run high enough and keep it there for hours. Thank GabeN for those 'jet fighter intake' exhausts.

  14. Received thanks from:
