    Re: AMD Radeon RX 590

Many people seem to put far too much emphasis on power consumption, assuming even a small difference in load power will add up to massive savings in electricity bills, which for domestic usage is usually a deeply flawed logic, especially given just how much extra people will spend with the aim of reducing their bills! I've worked it out more accurately in the past, but to anyone convinced it makes a significant difference, actually do the maths and work out how much you're 'saving' each year vs the purchase price of the card. I know a very rough ball-park calculation for a 24/7 load, is to take the load in Watts and that's roughly what you would pay in pounds per year. So say you game for 2 hours per day and the card is using 100W more, that would be (again, very roughly, and rounding up) an extra tenner a year. Are you really going to make back the difference in purchase price over the length of time you own the card, let alone actually save money? It's certainly not as straightforward as people assume, and the UK has fairly expensive electricity vs many other markets.

Another thing people will do is look at graphs comparing the factory-OC AMD card in question to an Nvidia reference design which tend to have substantially lower power consumption than the majority of actual retail cards.

Sure, all else being the same, lower power consumption is a bonus, but all else is not the same!

You keep posting walls of text like this on AMD-related articles (I know I'm guilty of that sometimes), claiming you have some wisdom or insight that an entire corporation has missed, then refuse to defend that position when your views are challenged, or proved incorrect.

Firstly, you're implying that AMD have deliberately designed GPUs for cryptocurrency mining, which is utter nonsense. It just so happens that the design of the products lends itself to the task vs competing designs. What is this 'junk' you're referring to in the silicon, care to explain? The business side of things I don't claim to be any sort of expert on, or even particularly knowledgeable, yet I've addressed it in some of your other posts only to be ignored, and for you to spout the same rubbish again. People justify their opinions (and that's what they are - pure opinion, not facts!) by stating they're in investor. And then have the arrogance to assume they understand business, as an individual, better than multi-billion dollar companies. Questioning things and stating opinions is par for the course, but even respected market analysts don't come out with the sort of faux-authoritative nonsense I've seen individuals come out with.

At this price point I think my choice would be a 2nd hand 1070 or the VEGA56 that was on offer for £299

Not gonna lie, pretty disappointed in this :/ Still rocking with my aging 280X, The Price / Performance just doesn't warrant the upgrade!

MSI haven't released an RX 590 graphics card or no press release as yet. Also find out why MSI never released a custom cooled VEGA 56 / 64 graphics card. Also will MSI still manufacture AMD graphics cards going forward? MSI seem to be still releasing FreeSync monitors.

You could almost buy this card for those games, and sell it brand new for 100 less and you would be winner. And the person that is buying the card from you.
That won't happen until the RX 580 cards are cleared out of the channel. For now there are sweet deals on them; I've seen one for as little as $165 on Black Friday and in December.
