Just buy the LG OLED. Same price HDMI 2.1 with VRR, low input lag, TV tuner and smart apps.

what seems interesting though is a VA panel capable of 4k 120Hz but you can't interface with it via HDMI 2.1 in other words other VA panels must be coming but this monitor/TV seems a strange choice
Would this be better / worse than a television if it was used for dvd / blu ray or streaming too?
Aside from lack of 120Hz BFI on the '9s' they are for all intents and purposes the same. The 'X' actually has lower bandwidth ports (40vs48Gbps) and loses DTS over eARC.
Accepted wisdom is buy a 9 series.
Which realistically is under a month away with Ampere and if you intend on using it as close to it's limits as possible. Feels like a non-issue unless you only use DP.
Hard to say without actual upscaling results, but I'm sure something like MadVR over your GPU in to this is within spitting distance of high-end TV upscaling.

for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.
I bet it's worse! It's advertised as a monitor, and it does not have a tuner so they probably built it around a "perfect signal" meaning a digital signal, free of interference or compression artifacts that matches the native resolution. What that means is, it oesn't need a fancy upscaler. So if you try to watch a DVD or 1080p Blu-Ray on it, it will look awful.
I stopped reading when you said it was HDMI 2.0. That's an absolute deal-breaker. Let us know when they come out with the HDMI 2.1 version.
