It is a gaming card - Titan will be slightly different and have drivers for content creators etc. and be $3k

Underperforming joke - nope in some situations it is twice as fast as previous gen.
Tech is getting to the stage all over that making a huge leap doesn't ever happen. It is virtually (!) impossible to make the huge steps of even say 5 years ago in tech that the masses want to buy. In a new area/growth area then big leaps are still happening but in the established area nope it's not going to happen

Bad is subjective here. Is it bad with current games? Yes absolutely. Will the same gap be there in a years time?......i'm not sure, I suspect it will widen a little, if only due to the memory. The thing is though that we have the 3080 20GB around the corner (read: 3080ti) which I expect will be at around £1k, which weakens the case for buying a 3090 even more.
That doesn't change the fact this is
terrible value at the moment and that 99% of gamers should not bother with it.
Or that none of us will actually be able to buy one of these this year. It's very likely that AMD will have exactly the same problem with bots & scalpers too, meaning that its 2021 before any of us can buy one at close to MSRP.
Not really, most of the rumours seem to be true.
Once they've sold enough of these, or AMD drop a decent card (if they can), along comes a ti (I know nothing new).
The fact there's so little in this and they're charging so much for the weeks / months of "professional" use.
It is practically a 3080 in gaming, which itself wasn't exactly brilliant.
This may actually be AMDs best chance in the last decade.
I don't see why trying to downplay AMD, they been on the front for long, PS/XBOX alone has AMD Tech in them, the release of PS5 is what make Nvidia uneasy, because everything would be developed around games for AMD first of all, so AMD can drop a flagship or really good card as it is time to be what they can do for Consoles, and PC's to closely follow.... it was the same tendency when the PS4 was new.
I knew my comment would be taken out of context. As hypocritical as it may sound, I'm not a fanboy, but I do admire AMD, what I said wasn't a jibe (I use to like both AMD and Nvidia, but Nividia has been rather sh***y).
I have respect for Nvidia, but I admire AMD more currently, they've stood by their ethics, perhaps they didn't have much choice? I don't know.
I'm very, very hopeful AMD can deliver, this is their best chance in the last decade. But I'm unsure if you've been here for the last *insert number here* releases, I have. I really hope they pull it off, things look promising.

Intel actually are, Nvidia are worried, but they're extremely capable and will be back on track soon (not that they've slipped too much really, it's the extortion mostly).
Re: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3090 Gaming OC
It's just a renamed Titan: workstation card for those who don't need to pay for qualification. Gamers have no need for this.
I think it's smart of them, in a scummy way, to rename the Titan - it stood out as separate from gamers, "yeah you can get this but you don't need it". But by keeping the gaming line naming, it's like "yeah you don't NEED this..but it's the fastest gaming card..wink"

Nope because it doesn't have the features of a Titan. That will come later or perhaps a new name. It's a halo product, niche in fact.
Titans have different drivers and features
Re: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3090 Gaming OC
I think Nvidia's own marketing calling it "Titan-like performance" has been confusing for everyone. Will they release a real Titan card down the line with all of the features? For sure upgraditis will hit again for people who bought the 3090 when they do.

Totally right, and yes I believe they will launch a Titan variant or call it something new...
Re: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3090 Gaming OC
There is not really that big a jump from the 2 series. So i think I will wait a bit.
Re: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3090 Gaming OC
3090 should have come with GDDR6X with EEC support

Not really subjective though is it? Why pay twice the price of a 3080 to "maybe" futureproof when after those couple of years or so, the new best card and get a better product and the solid 3080 now?
Having said that, I have no problem with e-peen cards. If people have disposable income, that is their prerogative. It just solidifies the 3080 as an excellent card for those who are willing to pay for top performance, but not obscenely so. I'm interested in how the 3070 holds up. If it is better than the 2080ti, then it may be more cost effective, but I'm not sold yet.

But it will not though, the card isn't really for that market, which will no doubt come a little bit later with the proper driver and tech support that goes with those products. Seems like some of the AIB cards haven't really followed the correct power delivery requirements (POSCAP / MLCC caps) from what I've been reading of the issues with 3080 / 3090 cards (either that or the driver is just poor), which seems to be causing issues when the card boosts higher.

EEC is or will be forever limited to quadro/tesla card's for deep learning CUDA application's in super computers, as multiple card's become a single unit and all working on the same process
Re: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3090 Gaming OC
Don't these cards all have error detection and replay on the memory?
Re: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3090 Gaming OC
No ECC memory as that is reserved for Pro GPU'S The RTX 3090 might appear overpriced for gaming but not all of us are gamers. In which case it is a very reasonable price. To get 24 GB Vram in a single card [ before the RTX 3090 ] one would have to use a Quadro RTX 6000 [ at more than double the price]. So I for one think it is a great price.
