Re: AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT and Radeon RX 6800

Great review. Now for a Radeon party trick, historically AMD Radeons have been painstakingly slow to react to market changes.
Sue needs to keep the engine firing and can't afford to let go of the pedal now, especially as we're likely to see some Ti's.
She's got nVidia and Intel in some heated boardroom meetings that's for sure

Perf/watt and perf/£ is a little disappointing especially for the 6800 and I can't see any in stock so the waiting game continues. Still leaning towards the 6800 but if Nvidia come out with a 10GB 3070Ti under 250W then I could be swayed.

BTW,WRT to raytracing performance most games are optimised for DXR1.0 which debuted with Turing. RDNA2 is made for DXR1.1 inline raytracing which works a bit differently,so we will need to see how performance is like in those titles.

    Edit!!

DF seems to place the RX6800/RX6800XT launch RT performance at around RTX2080~RTX2080 Super level:

Re: AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT and Radeon RX 6800

I've got to say that's a little disappointing, in a good way, I was expecting the price/performance differences between Nvidia/AMD would make choosing a GPU fairly straight forward.

This seems to have turned things on their head, it seems the 6800 XT is slightly better when it comes to anything under 4k but sucks for real-time ray-tracing, then again it's £50 cheaper. Is giving up RT and 4k for such a small advantage worth it? (IDK)

I am not so sure how long the 4K advantage will exist with 10GB of VRAM, especially since Nvidia is apparently going to launch an RTX3080TI 20GB:

I don't think a 20Gb 3080 will change much TBH, it will probably just be more better at 4k for more money.

This is hypothetical though as spending almost £700 for a GPU make me go faint.

Spending £400 would do the same for me!

Re: AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT and Radeon RX 6800

I'm surprised AMD now lead perf/watt, despite Nvidia finally moving off 12nm. Very impressive showing from the red team, with a drop in RT competitiveness the only trade off. I can't think many devs will target NVidia RT performance though, with consoles and this series bound to win the market share - but let's see what happens with Cyberpunk...

If I had to choose now the 6800 would be my card - lack of a 16GB 3070 model seals it for me. But I'm now eagerly awaiting the January show down between 6700 and 3060...

Re: AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT and Radeon RX 6800

I'm actually surprised AMD have improved upon RDNA so much within the same process node. It's a shame they don't yet have anything available within the drivers to counter DLSS, especially with regards to Ray Tracing (not that many games with it, so not a deal breaker). I suspect with DLSS turned on in games that the 6800 / 3070 would be much closer, hence my concern AMD has yet to release something.

Considering driver woes with new launches, plus the lack of any real stock from either camp (unless you want to pay a scalper.... nope), I think I'll just keep my 2080 for the time being and be patient.

If neither camp get a grip on the whole scalper situation, when I do upgrade my to my next GPU, it may just be a console instead.

It'd good to see AMD competing at the high end again I think it might be worth upgrading from my GTX980Ti this generation

I'll most likely buy in the New Year if both teams have stock, and probably go with whoever's got the combination of >8GB RAM and best price/performance ratio at the time

Re: AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT and Radeon RX 6800

Poor AMD, this is rather disappointing.

I did expect them to perform slightly under the 3080s ($50 less really ) but I didn't expect a rough average of 8-10% slower at 3440x1440 Ultrawide & higher (*note thats closer to 4k in pixel count than 1440p)- without DLSS. OK so that is about 10% less in price too, so maybe it's ok!
I mean this is still a nice leap forward - and I would say the 6800XT is competitive so it's nice for gamer's to have a choice, just would have been nice for AMD to actually take the lead again as they did many years ago.

3080ti it is then if the expectations there are true!

Re: AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT and Radeon RX 6800

Well, all stock has gone in 4-5 minutes in Switzerland. It was actually worse than Nvidia.

    Price-wise 6800 XT had a good price (719SFr - 595GBP) but 6800 was way overpriced ((689CHF - 570GBP)compared to 3070 (that you could get for 499CHF - 412GBP) and also just a couple of bucks less than 6800 XT.

As I said in another article, most of the cards have been pre-sold to miners in huge lots and only a small quantity had actually arrived in the shops. So do not put blame on shops or even AMD, as once, cards are sold, they have no control over.

Lez's see what 25 Nov will bring us. Hopefully OEMs will not abuse the prices.
The more you live, less you die. More you play, more you die. Isn't it great.

Ray tracing not really for me anyhow and at 265mm length it will fit in my rig unlike Nvidia so for me a Win for AMD lol

Re: AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT and Radeon RX 6800

Just seen the benchmarks on Linus's review

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUzCn-ITJ_o

The RTX 3070 and RX 6800XT are roughly the same price and the RX 6800 XT has better performance

But the RTX 3080 is ~ £100 more and is a lot faster than the RX 6800XT in some benchmarks as well as some games when using DLSS and raytracing

For those ones, it would be better value to get the RTX 3080 over the RX 6800XT

I imagine a lot of GPU buyers go in with the attitude like people do for buying a car. 'Right I'm only going to buying the base model, as it suits by needs' and end up walking out with the top trim, expensive paint, 'Comfort' pack, extended warranty and protection package. We can always get something that little bit better if we pay the money, it's just a case of what can I afford, what do I want to afford and will I regret this after buying it?

haha when i got my car in 2012, the dealer said "you will have to wait a few months" assuming i wanted some metallic paintjob.
I said hell no what do you have, he said we have red cars, i said give me one of those.
It is just a freaking car even if severely overpriced when you live here, and anything big,,,,, well that is solely up to the lotto gods, even if i was still a working man.
