    Corsair TwinX1024 4400C25PT 1Gbyte Matched Memory

Whichever way you cut it, DDR550 memory is extremely useful when the only means of radically raising CPU speed, and by inference performance, is to crank FSB to 275MHz+. It would make a perfect partner to a setup consisting of, say, AMD's Athlon 64 3000/3200 and/or Intel's Pentium 4 2.8GHz/3.0GHz processors. These processors often overclock to 250MHz+ FSB with relatively innocuous cooling, and having synchronous RAM allows you to extract maximum bandwidth and performance from said setup.

Interesting as I was considering buying some of this the other day for a 754 system.
It does show what effect not only latencies but command rate have on performance.
Obviously 1 of the reasons that 754's can keep up with 939s is that it is quite common to be able to run 1T on TCCD at higher bus speeds e.g. 270 2.5-3-3.

1 thing - " By running memory in a synchronous fashion with an overclocked Front-Side Bus or driven clock, performance, as expected, is markedly better than opting for slower, asynchronous RAM."
Surely unless you are running LDT multi of 1 (unlikely I would have thought - more likely 3 or 4) then your CPU & RAM buses can't be synchronous?

    hmm..

a very good review, im at a loose end, whether to get the 3200 corsair, or this pc4400 stuff, i think i'll go with the 4400 as u've stated that at ddr 400 speeds it does 2.2.2.5 latencies n e way

but if i was to get the ram, do u think the a8v deluxe mobo is capable of hitting 275mhz ?? im not sure as i cant adjust the multiplier / v core since updating to bios rev 1008

    thanks 4 the awesome review

Glad we can be of use guys!

BUFF - I'm afraid your question has lost me, but then again I'm not that RAM savvy (probably why I didn't do the review )

    A question...

    Hi

I have recently purchased both an Asus A8v deluxe motherboard and the twinx1024 4400 RAM reviewed here and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations in regards to a CPU? (I'm looking to spend about £200 on the CPU).

I'm actually building my first PC from scratch and having read the review i have some questions...

In regards to the AMD 64 3800+ that was used in the review, why was it necessary to lower the multiplier on the AMD Athlon 64 3800+ and raise the driven clock to 275MHz? This may seem obvious to some but please bear in mind i've little experience in such things. Was this simply to compare against the other RAM modules?

I would also like to ask what the actual difference is between the Newcastle and venice 3800+ cores?

    Thank you for your time.

    Kind regards

    Jon
