Talking Scan 3XS AMD Chameleon

Remember our snapshot look at a system from Scan called the Chameleon? Mad as a badger, the SKU has now been finished and to celebrate, the chaps and chappettes down near the Reebok Stadium in Bolton put together a 3XS AMD Chameleon for HEXUS that represents pretty much the pinnacle of what it has to offer in terms of performance.

Join us as we have a good look at SCAN's £5000 behemoth for HEXUS.core. £5000 without a monitor I should add... Heh. Read the HEXUS.review.

Rys can you just clarify if you found any problems with the a8n premium's chipset overheating? I have read some people have had problems with this motherboard in upsidedown cases like the tj06 (becuase of the heatpipe)? did you have any issues?

Stability was fine during testing, including repeated load conditions, with no crashes or hangs. So I can't say I saw anything heat related due to the pipe being upside down. But then again I can see how it would be a problem.

I'll try and ask ASUS what they think.

Which is why I said: its very good for a vendor PC. You guys wanna be more defensive?

Take it this way: if I had 5k to spend and wanted to get a PC with full support and warantee I'd most likely get that system: or at least it would be close between SCAN and Alienware. Now to me: thats a compliment - Alienware have a great rep

However I wouldn't spend 5k on a vendor PC: but for those that would its good

Thing is, do you get that additional cosy feeling that can't be defined by price?

Even when I got my Dell years ago, the user documentation was fantastic - all in one place, clear yet detailed. The support was fantastic, the website that's tailored to your system was fantastic (you just put in your unique system number and they have all the details/history of your machine) etc.

I've heard (and seen) similar things from other vendors - alienwares leather folder etc all add to the special feeling you get when buying these kind of systems.

What scan need to do is provide that magical user feeling.

Too true Davos, for £5k I'd have a nice car. I'd only really spend max £1k on a PC.

Very nice system but one thing, for £5000 I would have expected 2gb ram, 1gb just isnt enough these days for full detail high res gaming, BF2 for example will not run smooth on this rig @ 1600 x 1200 with details to max.

Hats off to the brave person at Scan who suggested this in there brainstorming meetings!

Imaging "I think we should sell a pre-over clocked system, build it usings the fastest parts availible.....then wrap it in a grands worth of paint"

again, well done on rolling it out, wonder for £5k purchase if you can get your face on Scans homepage too.

Personally i dont like the way the Radiator is mounted on the outside, if they couldn't fit it in then they should have had a bigger case, also, id be very surprised if theres was a noticeable difference when putting the gpu on a seperate loop, especially with a 3x120 rad. But anyway, theyve done it now, like i said, id have chosen a much bigger case if i want 480cm of radiators in there.
