NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GS AGP Launch Preview

At a stated £229 including dreaded VAT and available from today at your favourite retailer, GeForce 7800 GS AGP looks like the best last-gasp option for AGP system users before they are forced into a jump to PCI Express.

Nice, but poor value compared to PCI options at the moment.

I suspect that is mostly due to the relative low volumes which this will hit

True. Sounds like they're holding out on the non-bridged PCI version as well - if the bridged ones ready to go.. where's the non-bridged? Maybe waiting to clear the 6800gs stock?

There will be no native AGP 7-series GeForce, as far as I'm aware.

About time we AGP owners got some graphics loving action.

Anyone know if this will work in my Shuttle SN45 ?

    Cheers

I'd like to know why we can't have a 7800 GT/GTX on AGP. After all, if you can connect a 7800 GS through a bridge chip, there is no reason why you couldn't do this with a 7800 GT/GTX.

Also, I'd like to see a fanless version of the 7800 GS - maybe clocked a bit lower (360MHz or thereabouts) but still with 600MHz memory. Would be great for a media PC where gaming is one of the design goals. Many such cards already exist for PCI-Express - it would be nice to see a card like this for AGP.

Does this card even come close to saturating the AGP 8x slot?

...according to that site, AGP bandwidth is ~ the same as pcie x 4, 2112mb/s vs 2000mb/s, but I couldnt find anywhere which states how saturated the AGP bus gets.
