    Hercules 3D Prophet All-In-Wonder 9800SE

I honestly can't think of a more compelling graphics card purchase in recent times. It fits so many possible scenarios. It'll play Half Life 2 and Doom 3 when they appear with good performance, it plays all current games titles just fine with IQ enhancing features enabled to boot. The All-In-Wonder hardware and software bundle just top it off. The price is excellent too.

Also does it have to be a Hercules model or will any 9800SE AIW do?

I might have overread but shouldnt there be a notice that only about 1/4 of the hercules aiw cards actually work with the softmod? Lots of people are getting checkers and other artifacts.

    edit; right i overread nevermind

Great - but not for Linux.

I just sold my ATI All-In-Wonder 9700 Pro to a friend and purchased a eVGA GeForce 5950 Ultra with video-in and -out.

    Why?

The ATI was great for Windows and Windows gaming, but the drivers available for Linux are a sick joke. NVidia provides a single universal installer for all Linux distributions and kernels, and it worked great. Been playing Neverwinter Nights happily (using MEPIS Linux) all day.

If you use or intend to try Linux, pass on the ATI products. Otherwise, it's a good card.

This is the annoying thing, Guillemot, Hercules' parent company for the brand, have no sales presence in the States. It's a purely European brand now, you'll be hard pressed to find one for sale in the States at all.

I wish it were different, they'd sell a mountain of them. Their loss
