I think it's time for another win for free compo

Thats an amazing machine, just wish I had the 3grand to get myself one
Have to agree that the front needs a little more work, but when you put so many different things in something is bound to stick out, would stop me buying it.

I'm extreamly tempted assuming that the GPU gets water cooled and fingers crossed it will.

Something happened yesturday that hit home to me how short life can be. So spending money on things you love is worth it.

Will be quite an upgrade from my p4 3ghz, 9800pro.

Just need to decide what monitor I'd want and If I care if it's hdcp complient or not.

I'd be tempted to go with a normal x-fi rather than a fatality and replace the fatality front panel with a second silver optical drive. I think that would remove the colour problem at the front. Cheaper too and I'm not sure the fatality offers much over the x-fi music to me.

Will have to see what scan say in the right to reply section about the gpu cooling today but all looks good so far.

It's a nice rig.. but i really don't like the case - i think they should have opted for the black model - would have been so much easier to just get black optical drives and to change the faceplate on the fan controller.

Amazing machine, nice review, good one scan.
I am generally bothered though by the power requirements - not that i am pointing the finger at Scan, they have just built it, but I am dismayed at the ramping up generally of Wattage requirements. It sucks. (Pun intended).

When Core 2 Duo came about, power per watt was a big thing, and it looked like we were about to enter into a fantastic dawn of supercomputing for the power of a lightbulb. What do we have now? Kill-a-watt PSU's (Pun again).

Not a good direction, at a time of Climate change, fuel & electric bills rising, insufficient power for the world etc...

You can chose the black aluminium case and black optical drives on the configure section. No idea if changing the fan controller to a black one is possible though.

    Hi all,

I am working on the specification on the review machine now. I hope to have a Black case option and also black optical / floppy drives as an option shortly.

The Akasa controller comes with 7 different face plates so I am sure there is one that would look good with black optical units.

    Nice phil thanks,

I'm tempted to go with an aluminium silver case but with all black drives etc, so that the fatality doesn't look out of place (I assume the fatality is black only?).

Or maybe I'll drop the fatality and go all silver. Hmm decisions decisons

Will scan still be responding in the hexus right to reply section today as pete suggested Yesterday?

The price just jumped £150-£200 but the spec seems the same

I must admit thats put me right off especially since I've been ready to order since last night but was waiting for scan to reply to my questions on if the GPU would be water cooled and if I could have it with media center edition.

why has the price changed? have I missed out by waiting for your responces?

    Thanks

if you are talking about amd 4 x 4, I can't see any way in the world that it will be cooler, more efficent and although you didn't mention it at all competative price wise.

You need an expensive special motherboard. 2 expensive FX processors, 2 lots of ram, probably 2GB for each processor then the graphics cards, from what I've read there will be no room on the mother board for a sound card.

Sure the performance may rock and hopefully it does but its going to be expensive and definatly not cooler and more efficent.

oh and I also belive you need the Ultimate version of windows vista for amd 4 x 4. Since you have 2 seperate dual core processors.
