FSB of 390 on one CPU and 490 on another... and this was a pre-production board it seems..

With a few BIOS upgrades this looks to be a really good board. No real faults, and it looks good, performs well, and is a quality build.
Try to make each and every day the best it can be.

Did you use the extra cooler in testing? Is it worth it? Is it noisy? My own northbridge is pretty toasty without it (never installed it), as my cooler (Scythe Infinity) doesn't push air down around the socket, just straight towards the back of the case.

Ah yes, but is it ASUS sending out hand-picked goods to be reviewed? It's normally the case of most manufacturers - best have a look at real-world OC results if you're considering taking the plunge.

I was tempted to get this and selling my P5B Deluxe, but it wouldn't make an awful lot of sense to be honest - it's not staggeringly better.

If the chip was capable, and the chipset was up to it, and the ram could do it, then 4240 is possible.

Kempez i have sine bought a second board like this one just building MSI's. It amazes me as with some of the MSI building packages they can be very slow and heavy on resources.

This machine just runs them with no stuttering, slowing or even bombing out. that why this board still amazes me its a gamers board but so much more.

TBH i might even use the msi machine as a COMMS server aswell

    Hi,

Im totally new here and Im gona start by asking a Noob Question!

How do I go about OC'ing the following rig:

    E6600
    AsusCommando
    2g Corsair XMS2 Cas 5
    Crossfire: X1900 + X1900 XTX
    250g Raid 1
    Zalman CNP5000? CPU cooler

I've OC'd b4 on later Asus boards but when i try to either up the FSB or within the Asus suite the system crashes or doesn't load to windows.

Any ways if anyone can suggest steps to OC'ing to the FSBs im reading about that'd be great!!

    Cheers
    Shafty

start by putting your RAM on 1:1 & check that it's running at the right voltage.

    MSI P55-GD80, i5 750
    abit A-S78H, Phenom 9750,

    Hey,

Since my post I've tried a few dif things. So far the highest i can OC the cpu to is 408mhz at 3.6gig. If I go any higher its very unstable especially with temps hitting 77 degrees on full load.

I ran bench marks in 3dmark 2006 and there is no discernable difference in graphic power. At 3.g 333hmz I got a score of 10458... at 3.4 gig (most stable) I hit a score of 10558. So for the difference of 100 points I've decided to leave it alone at 3.1 gig.

The hightest I could clock the system was 3.8gigs but that would load to the desktop b4 crashing out.

I'll be testing some new memory this week, 1000mhz as opposed to the 800mhz.

    Cheers for the advice lads,
    Shafty

PS: After loading the latest bios I had no probs oc'ing straight up to 380mhz from 266.

At 408mhz, run sandra 07 memory bandwidth benchmark, save the results and then clock back down to 400mhz and run sandra again. Your results should be better at 400mhz.

    Some good info here
