    what is this STINKY cheap ADVERT? HELLOooo

    I can't believe every time I switch over to this web page to check out the posts some little bastard audio advert keeps saying hello to me..
    I just tried to write something and the guy said hello to me seven or eight times before I even wrote 20 words so I gave up on the post.

    it is expecting a bit too much to think people have to turn the sound down when they visit your website!

    why does such a nice website have such a cheap trashy advert thing happening?I don't see any other serious websites with anything like that.

    Have you a screen shot of the Ad - I don't believe we intentionally run any audio adverts.

    I'm going to move this to the suggestions area and alert the correct people for you.

    I don't think in the UK we get those adverts, but it may be different for other regions. Do you use AOL by any chance?

    the worst is that bee/wasp noise one. not on hexus obviously but i leap off pages where it shows up. seems to be a trend towards adverts with sounds that you not even need to put your cursor over for them to start. grr

    We try not to have them, but sometimes some networks put them in the rotation without us knowing.

    The reason why its affecting you is the way AOL are routing your traffic. UK ISP's and appropriate routing don't see any of these ads so its MUCH harder for us to troubleshoot.

    When will people realise it's a bad idea to boast about blocking ads on a site that relies on them for it's revenue. Seriously, it's not rocket science, apply some common sense before you post.....

    P.S. You now owe us £17.31 for using our services whilst blocking adverts, I'll send you the offshore bank details for your immediate wire transfer.

    Iain is of course right.

    Alerting us to nuisance adverts is fine, because we can do our best to make your visit to the site more enjoyable, but blocking all of our (or any other site's) ads simply isn't fair.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    Sorry, I don't block ads because Hexus relies on them for revenue (don't you get your main revenue from Scan and the other forum sponsors?) - I block them so I don't get stupid loud "hello" noise everytime I click on a change the webpage. Besides does me blocking them change your revenue?

    I (and I am sure many other people on this forum, given its mostly full with people interested in computers) don't click on these type of adverts as we are not interested in buying smilieys, so is there any harm in blocking them? Is it wrong to change the channel on your TV in the adverts?

    I wasn't boasting, just informing the OP of a way to avoid loud adverts generally on any site - apologies if that was inappropiate.

    I do love this community and being part of it and I support Hexus by using the sponsor retailers for most of my purchases - but I am not susceptible to these type of adverts so I'd rather not waste my bandwidth downloading them.

    Our adverts are all selected to be appropriate to our target audience and we've never intentionally provided adverts with audio. Unfortunately, adverts are provided by agencies who target based on IP address and other criteria so occasionally, if you get routed through a strange host, the agency will push out an inappropriate advert e.g. the smilies one mentioned in this thread. In the event that happens simply post here and we'll usually sort it out as a matter of urgency.

    We have different revenue streams but the key one is advertising so please don't block them. You're more likely to suffer if you block them. As an example with the Scan free shipping we've arranged for valued members, if you block the adverts you may well be missing out on some fantastic deals that are unique to HEXUS.

    Thanks, as a result we won't send the bailiffs round for the £17.31 .

    Anyone else want to come out the closet and whitelist hexus if you're using ad blocker software ? Think of all the positive karma you'll generate.
