Is hexus looking for a forum mod?

Since this thread seems to have gone from someone asking about a mod position to this debate about the forum moderation - shall we aim to move this back on track :)

Simple answer - we invite people to become moderators - but thank you for offering your services :)

I'm a mod (under a different handle) on a fairly well-known board and I was invited to join but only after a number of years and posting/taking part.

It can be hard (unpaid!) work but I look on it as a privilege - even if you do run into some complete knobbers from time to time! :D

Seems like hexus is ran like most other forums with mods. Be a nice person and help others and you'll get invited to be a moderator. These are good rules for running any forum and it also whittles down all the megalomaniacs that want access to the ban button :rolleyes:

No idea on exact number, but its usually for a good reason, and after a long period of warnings etc...

i'd say over 5, while i've been here i've seen blatant spammers posting about cheap mobiles and such in each forum. they dissappeared since :P

So.... if us posters are being generally observed, and once in a while someone gets the call the wear the big hat (you know the one, with the big moose horns), does this mean there is some sort of table/ranking system?
Does this post move me up or down?

Or maybe certain "key" words can bump you up or down the list.
I'd certainly better not write $%#^ or *&#%&@ or i'll be in trouble. The hexus server probably won't even allow me to post the word #$%@&$.

I don't think its done by automated means - the Admins look across the forums, and if they see anyone they feel is suitable, then they contact you to see if you'd be interested.

If it was to be automated, it would be very difficult to define the characteristics which would make a good mod.

Your line of questioning was originally pretty open, but now its becoming a specific 'attack' on others people opinions as well as the moderator functions here at HEXUS.

The way I read it, it appeared to be the usual / morbid curiosity, rather than anything malicious. People getting banned from here (and behaving / posting in a way that would get them banned) is the forum equivalent of a pile-up on the M1: never a good thing, but everyone wants to see :telephone:

I don't think anyone was being attacked in this thread.
I think generally the mod staff do a fantastic job. There are some who are a bit heavy handed, and some who are a bit more relaxed, it's all about the Mods forum persona. Firm but fair I've always seen it.
