    30 Second delay between posts?

New today ?, because A) it was definitely not working, i timed it at least 5minutes between posts, and b) is it really necessary?,

I move from one thread to the next when i'm trying to help out in the computing hardware forum, trying to give guidance and I'd often get a response out in under 30 seconds a thread?.

    Not complaining just asking.

    Thanks

It's to avoid spamming or automated robots filling the forum with spam. A necessary evil I'm afraid but there may be scope to drop the time between posts. I'll let Shorty make the decision

    Tig

.. can you be 100% sure it was more than 30 seconds?

The 30 second floodcheck is in place to stop automated and malicious spamming. If you come across it again, can you let me know whats threads, what connection you are on.. and (as Moby asked) what your time is .. in comparison to the server time for you posting

If it becomes a serious problem/issue, Il talk to the admin team

EDIT:// Az beat me to it

Sorry! The administrator has specified that users can only post one message every 30 seconds.

That was while posting in this forum.

Perhaps no wait between posts for users with over 100 or something like that? As there would be no need for us to SPAM...

Definitely a lot longer than 30 seconds. I mean I closed the browser down, started a new one etc etc etc, read the other messages in the forums.

on a 2mb connection at work - it felt like it screwed up as i've not had it happen before....

Does this only happen on your work connection Tig? Can you check it when you are home tonight?

Id like to get to the bottom of this, as no-one else has mentioned it being an issue, more of a pain.

It could be that the forum tracks message posting by IP address. if your proxy is masking your IP for any reason and someone else is on the board with a masked IP then it may assume you are the same person. The same would be true for many people with the same IP, e.g. people at your company. This would account for the random nature as other people may or may not have posted within 30 seconds when you make your post.

That said it is unlikely as you are a registered user and it should be controlling this on a user basis, not on an IP basis. It depends on how vbulletin tackles it.

I doubt its doing it on a IP basis, because then if Hexus had more than 1 person working at say o2, there would be chaos with postings hitting this problem more than once surely?.

I don't know anyone here at work that reads hexus, I'd love it if there was, I can confirm IP range of our firewall here if needs be.
