    Close/lock your own thread?

    Would it be possible?

just think it be useful in some threads we're the answer has clearly been achieved, yet some people continue to post pointless comments over the thread.

afaik it's not possable, you would have to have admin/mod powers to do something like that
Someone left a note on a piece of cake in the fridge that said, "Do not eat!". I ate the cake and left a note saying, "Yuck, who the hell eats paper ?

Nah, interesting idea, but AFAIK it aint possible, and eve if it was i am not sure if it would need to be implemented.

There is an option to allow users to close their own threads. We have never had it enabled in the past although the reasons for this may be before my time with Hexus. I'll raise it with the mods and let someone with some experience get back to you

    hope that helps

the only problem with allowing users to close and especially delete their own threads, is that people might exploit it (if it were in place in the FS section, which would make sense as no one needs to close posts anywhere else really), ie people claim to be selling some goods, the buyer pays the guy, and then the seller just deletes the thread? or can you not delete your own thread if it has replies?

(just trying to see the argument against enabling it, tho i'm prolly missing some more obvious reasons?)

Hence why I think we should just be able to close, NOT delete threads

Probably because it would allow a user to insult someone and then close the thread thus preventing a response until a moderator managed to get to dealing with it. This can cause issues for libel and so on and companies have been taken to court for it in the past. Better safe than sorry

I'm between decisions on this myself....its sounds ideal in For Sale for example...

    but...

like Az says....if you posted "I hate Mr XYZ cos he is a tit" and then closed the thread, Mr XYZ would then open his own thread to fight it and then close it.....etc etc.

So it would spread the problem out....bad news.

Think its gonna stay as it is cos it would be complex....but I know very little of the software side so dunno if forum by forum is different

It can be set on a per forum basis.. however....

While the logic seems sound, it starts to get really messy.. for the reasons already highlighted above
