Why does Hexus not have some sort of feature to automatically close all threads over a certain period, say 6 months or so? Maybe even 3?
I ask because I see more and more necro's recently, and they just end up being locked anyway...
I think we're better off leaving them open - sometimes something relevant can be added. Granted not very often.
When spammers revive threads, and their threads get deleted, they should jump back down the list.
However, a problem arises if people respond to the spammy posts. We don't always spot and remove these replies. If people report rather than reply, then when we hit them with a ban hammer, the thread will return to its "correct" place.
is there a way to show if a post has been reported? I tend to post "reported" so other people don't mass report one thread
It would be nice if a little note was put on the reported post saying "reported to the mod team"

Never thought of that kalniel, great idea.
How about this clever little vB hack/addon?
http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=96850This Hack helps to prevent Users from (accidently) bumping old Threads by forcing them to tick a checkbox when replying to a Thread older than x days.
Interestingly (as some people will no doubt have already noticed) this has happened again with a user searching for threads on a particular topic and bumping one that was almost 2.5 years old. I think having this box might make people stop and think about bumping the thread: hopefully they'll go back, read the thread, then decide to either: a) bump the thread but add an explanation as to why they're doing it, or b) start their own thread on the relevant topic.
I'd tend to agree with Steve that there will sometimes be occasions when a thread is revived for good reasons: but more often threads get bumped simply because the person who's gone into it hasn't looked at the dates. A warning that they're posting in a very old thread would probably be enough to make people think more carefully about what / why they're posting.
