The ad doesn't load at all for me in IE6
It is beacuse the NewEgg banners are hosted in America and some people (ISP dependant) experience a timeout. Please be aware that NewEgg is keeping this forum alive and HEXUS does not condone the use of ad blocking in any way. That said we are looking into a way to host the ads locally to resolve the issue. In the meantime please ensure you don't make any adverse comments related to our advertisers or you may well lose the privilege of using this forum, and lets remember it is a privilege.
The reason it doesn't happen in IE6 is because it simply displays "action cancelled" instead of showing a popup message.
Az - I'm not interested in dissing advertisers, I appreciate their importance and think it's good that you have a partnership with a respectable firm such as NewEgg. However, the ads aren't much use if they don't work anyway, are they?
We are aware of the issue and are trying to resolve it. I wasn't accusing anyone of dissing advertisers, just ensuring it doesn't happen.
Ive been getting the problems too..
slightly off topic but my hosts file seems to be broken. the addresses in it still work, maybe the hosts file stops working when its 24kb big? shortened to 1kb hoping it now works... do you have to set windows to use hosts or something?
I don't think it's a problem. Windows uses a mod of the Unix TCP/IP stack (hence the reason the settings are stored in the "etc" folder.) The hosts file is the first place that is looked at when trying to resolve a name.
Arrrrghhhh I don't mean to go on fellas but its officially driving me nuts now :o
about:config in the address bar
browser.xul.error_pages.enabled
set to "true"
replaces all popup ok-box messages with html-based messages (so badly typed urls will go to a "page not found" page, and in this case unconnectable ads will just give a broken image icon without moaning)
I am trying to get hold of the person who runs the ads server.
Please no more posts about this.
Code Updated.. seems to work great for me. :)
Looking good so far - nice one Shorty.
So I've traced the new ad IP to another server in the US - I presume it's more reliable?
Good show.
Thank David.Quote:
