Hexus.net just went narrow
I might be going mental, but I thought Hexus.net used to spread to each edge of my monitor.
I refreshed the page a few minutes ago, and it's centred in the middle of the page, perhaps 1024/1280 pixels wide. I could've sworn it wasn't like that before.
Has it changed recently?
Re: Hexus.net just went narrow
The forums are fine, but the main page I'm getting the same issue. Large areas unused now either side.
Something to do with this weeks updates?
Re: Hexus.net just went narrow
Yeah forums are same as ever, just the main hexus.net, trust and so on.
Re: Hexus.net just went narrow
It does seem as it has now become fixed width - as to whether the change was intentional, I do not know.
I shall flag it with Steve :)
Re: Hexus.net just went narrow
I only noticed it after running CCleaner and wondered if it had deleted something it shouldn't as Chrome displays white bars either side of the main page now - forums are fine however.
Re: Hexus.net just went narrow
I think you're just being narrow minded ;)
Re: Hexus.net just went narrow
Testing it in Chrome and the page stretches and fills the browser nicely, no white bars in sight. IE8 is fixed width though.

Have you flushed your history in chrome?
Re: Hexus.net just went narrow
It was on purpose :)
We are making other changes too over the next few weeks.
This is just a stop gap measure to bigger things :)
We are looking at colouring each side rather than using white.
Cheers,
David

Wrap around advertising space by any chance?

It's more so a request from Tarinder and the editorial team
Re: Hexus.net just went narrow
Because a growing number of people have widescreen, high res monitors, we've got pseudo fixed width in order to control the layout of the content. Before, at high res paragraphs would stretch out over a single line - uncool.
It's optimised for 1280, but rather than punish people with lower res screens (netbook/laptop) it will shrink down to 1000px wide if it needs to - so it's "fixed width with a bit of wiggle".
