how do you get a pic for a sig?
Make it yourself in Paint Shop Pro or something similar, mine is 400x118 which is about the right size I think.
Then you need to upload it to your website (or somewhere you can link to), and link to it in the "Edit Sig" section in User CP. Think thats it really! :)
Preferred size is 468x80 or smaller. We only let Sair off as she has connections in HEXUS :) Unless I'm getting her mixed up with someone else in which case your sig's a bit large :)
^^What she (Sair) said.
Limiting height is prob more important than limiting width, Id say try to keep it under 100ish high if you can, somewhere about 400-600ish wide is fine. If you dont have PSP or similar, get the GIMP for free from www.gimp.org which is great, and free. I think it was originally a linux program, hence the freeness.
Then, in order to upload it, go to www.uploadit.org, register and upload it. Copy the shortcut, go into user CP in hexus, then edit sig, and click the pic box. Paste the link into the box that pops up, and it will automatically put in the image tages for you, and it should work.
If you're looking for pics as a starting point for your sig (like I searched for "guybrush threepwood") then go to images.google.com and search for pics there.
Sorted.
EDIT: Edited size reccomendations, following Az's post.
Aw, thanks! ;) :devilish: (I promise to make it smaller if I re-do it though!)Quote:

Do you have a preferred byte size limit?
Yes, we prefer as small a byte size as possible. Height is the main issue and I am strongly suggesting you keep it to 80 pixels or lower, let's face it no-one really cares what your sig image looks like except yourself. Obviously I'm not going to adopt a draconian approach and enforce 80 pixels or less but if it's too big you will be asked to change it. For example turkster, your sig in total takes up roughly 3 times the size of that post. Is that really necessary ? Surely you can just pick text or an image or combine the two, you don;t need both. If you resize your window to 800 x 600 then it takes up around a quarter of the screen real estate which is quite frankly just ridiculous
If you need a visual guide then the newEgg banner ad at the top of the screen is 80 pixels high and that should be more than enough space to play with :) Maybe we should have a competition to see who can come up with the most useful sig in that space
Well im SORRY Az but there is no need to sound like I am the only one with a large sig. You may notice that the two posts immediately above mine have sigs that are both taller by a few pixels than the 103px height of mine. There are also plenty of people here with text and sigs.
I have no problem resizing it if that is what you want but there is no need to imply that mine is "ridiculous" in comparison to others.
As for no one caring what a sig pic looks like but oneself. I think that is unlikely. I like a lot of the sigs around here and immediately equate the sig with the person posting. In an online situation where there is no face to face contact a sig provides an important visual motif to associate with that person.
Dont get all defensive, he only said it to you because you made the point :) I assume thats its not a problem for you as Im assuming youre not a 56ker, and you have at least 1024x768 resolution. I dont have a problem with your sig at all, hell, mines 100 pixels high, but I can see why some might. Im sure it wasnt a personal go anyway, just illustrating his point.
I think Ill redo mine at some point, less height, more width seems to be the way to go.
Small and neat here :D
Yeah i know prolly took that too seriously. :)
Making it much wider than 400px still causes problems at 800x600 though.
And yes i have had to use this site at 800x600 and frankly a lot of it looks fairly strange when viewed at that resolution in comparison to 1024x768 or 1280x1024 .
As you guess i am quite the opposite of being a 56ker at the mo but that probably wont continue for long and i do feel sorry for those with slow connections but you can turn off sigs in the viewing options which presumably sppeds up the page load times.
My comment was not targetted specifically at you, it was a general comment using you as an example. If that offended you then I apologise. Obviously there is an option to turn sigs off in your vBulletin profile but large sigs take up real estate. Just to reiterate my earlier point though, you have both an image and some text, surely they could be easily combined ?
Anyway, we don't have overly strict rules here about sigs so I'm not going to force anyone to change it unless it is completely unsuitable, I'm merely trying to get people to show some consideration for others.
Your point about people using sigs as a way of recognising posts is fair and valid and obviously differs from my own personal opinion but it's a free world.
No bother Az.
I'll cut mine down or integrate text into it as soon as i get a chance.
tbh I dont like sig pics. Infact sigs altogether seem to achieve nothing really.
Wow...you have told me your computer spec...great...
cheers every 1
