Banner is now screwed up using MyIE2 with ad filtering

Browsing the site using the MyIE2 browser with ad filtering enabled causes the right-hand section of the top banner to be repeated 5 times, almost filling the browser window.

    Example application dump:
    http://www.nerf.me.uk/images/upload/myie2-hexus.jpg

(Not using img tags as the file will only be there temporarily.)

Disabling ad filtering, or adding an exception for this advert/site is not a solution.

    Hmm that screeny looks nasty.

Serves you right for blocking out the way we pay for all our servers, infrastructure and bandwidth then don't it?

Can't you choose in MyIE2 which adverts it blocks?

Living and dying laughing and crying
Once you have seen it you will never be the same
Life in the fast lane is just how it seems
Hard and it is heavy dirty and mean

Can't you choose in MyIE2 which adverts it blocks?
Yep, but it's based on the advert company, not the site the reference comes from, so it would be enabled/disabled for every website which has ads hosted by (in this case) clicks.atdmt.com.

Maybe it's just a problem with MyIE2's method of filtering, as the source is left intact (as opposed to, say, AdSubtract which actually strips out the HTML where the ads are linked to, so the browser never sees them).

The Internet is so clogged up with damn adverts it's like watching American TV these days.
I don't mind static, discrete ads that are hosted on the site you see them (as they can't be filtered anyway), but the number of popups, rollovers, iframes, animations, etc. on a lot of sites just makes it painful to visit them.
    *shrug*

I'll put up with it or not visit the site, I just thought I'd point it out as it's only happened with this latest revamp of the forums.
I never click on ads anyway, so it's no lost revenue from me

try disabling ad filtering and using a REAL cross-browser solution like an ad-free HOSTS file. myie2 works fine for me here, and i don't get banner ads...

Websites don't just get paid in click throughs - they also get paid per displayed advert - though the click throughs give the website more.

You have to remember that sites like hexus are paid for by advertising - by blocking all their ads, but still using their bandwidth you're contributing to putting them out of business...
Now go away before I taunt you a second time.

I do several types of ads.

    - Static
    - Per Click
    - Per view

But to get the contracts you need to prove numbers.

I think it is unfair you are complaining that your filtering app stops my site from being displayed properly.

Thanks for the input though, we will try and fix it since I hate broken code.

    How about a donation?

I don't think it's ad filtering causing this, I use IE5 and no filtering software but I get the banner repeated 6 times...

Actually ignore that, we're talking about the forum header and it doesn't use CSS. Straightforward tables and HTML, which makes this a really strange problem. Maybe one for Shorty to look at

K now it displays 6 of the banner for a second then goes back to one when the full page has loaded.

But at least I can see your ads now

probably just need height and width parameters set in the HTML for the ad in the header. Shorty or David, can you deal with this or do you want me to send the code ?

it's just a missing height parameter in the <img> tag for the ad. If the user doesn't see the ad (due to ad blocking or any other reason) then the table cell produces some random height. Just add in height ="60" after width="460" to the <img> tag and it should be fixed.

I've lost the link to get into the admin section to modify the forum styles or I'd do it myself
