Classified sections - rule updates?

Could we get the rules updated in the classified section so they reflect current practise? It seems like previous rules such as a maximum of two open threads and no dealings with posters with under 100 posts are no longer in place so it's a bit confusing when stickies say otherwise.

Do you just mean that those rules aren't being clamped down on? AFAIK they're still in place.

Even a couple of years ago people were talking about rewriting the rules, and mods kept on saying that it was already in the pipeline but technological issues were holding them back.

Whatever happens they need looking at though, they've been adapted so much over time that it's become a pretty difficult document to read.

Thanks Kalniel, I'll have a look and see if I can restructure them & make them easier to follow.

I'll also have a look if there are any rules which are now out of date and need removing/modifying - and deal with them appropriately.

Thanks dave87. You keep talking about 'For Sale', what does that mean? Is that the whole classified board, or just the "Classifieds - Sell your stuff!" section etc.?

eg:

"PM them and copy in a For Sale Moderator or Administrator."

"For Sale Moderators and Administrators do not like having to edit and delete threads"

"Access to the For Sale section is a perk of continued, active, HEXUS Forum membership"

Also is the two thread limit per individual section, or for sell your stuff and wanted combined?

If I may make some suggestions:

• Rename Wanted to Classifieds - Wanted - this will help associate the two sections as part of classified
• Possibly rename Classifieds - Sell your stuff! to Classified - Sales to match

Then maybe re-word the rules for the classifieds sections so it's a bit easier to match up. Something like (also includes some rearrangement - putting more sale specific stuff in the sales section for example, changing froogle to google shopping etc.)

(another question: is trust account only a requirement for the seller advertising in the sell your stuff section? or does anyone buying/selling in classifieds require a hexus.trust account?)

Note: If you (a member) feels that one of the rules below has been breached, then use the 'Report to Moderator' button on the left hand side of the forum. DO NOT post in the thread or attempt to take matters into your own hands - this invariably causes more issues than it solves. If you wish to give a member a polite nudge in the correct direction (something omitted from the opening post, for example) PM them and copy in a Classifieds Moderator or Administrator.

Additional word from the authorities: we do not like having to edit and delete threads which do not comply with the rules. Following the rules set out below is a sure fire way to avoid such action needing to be taken, and a far simpler Classifieds environment for everyone. Members who are consistently incapable or unwilling to abide by these rules will have their access to the Classifieds Sub Forum or indeed access to the HEXUS Forums suspended or revoked.

1. General Rules

Access to the Classifieds sections is a perk of continued, active, HEXUS Forum membership. As such, there are some stipulations:

1. Access is for active members with more than 100 posts on HEXUS. Please don't carry out transactions with any members with less than 100 posts.
   
   • If you have less than 100 posts but can access the Classifieds section, do not make an offer to buy/sell
2. The Classifieds section is not to be used for trading or other commercial activities. This includes purchases in bulk (ie. eBay job lots) resold individually at a profit.
3. Items sold by members must belong to the member selling them. Forum members shall not sell anything they do not own, including, without restriction:
   
   • Stolen/Fraudulently Obtained Items
   • Sale on behalf of another, regardless of any agreement between the member and the owner of the item
4. No spoiler posts shall be posted in the Classifieds sections. This includes, without restriction:
   
   • posts questioning the value of an item
   • posts linking to alternative sellers, including eBay
   • posts indicating how great or otherwise the item for sale is.
   
   It is for the seller to determine the price at which the item is sold. Should you feel the prices are unreasonable indicate this by private message only. If you feel the price breaks the rules inform a Classifieds Moderator or Administrator.
5. There is a limit of two active Classifieds threads at one time. If you wish to add an additional thread you must ask a Moderator to close one of the other ones you have open. Moderators will close old threads - please edit the original post and change the 'Thread Prefix' to 'SOLD' in the sales section for eg.
6. Items may be advertised elsewhere simultaneously (ie other forums' Classifieds equivalent sections, unless their forum rules specifically restrict this. AVForums is a prime example of this). If they are listed elsewhere, this needs to be prominently mentioned in the opening post.
7. No items may be listed by reference to another forum's Classifieds equivalent section - i.e. See my items here [link].
8. No items listed on HEXUS may be sold on eBay at the same time. This includes both items listed for sale and items posted in response to a wanted post.
9. 'Bumping' of threads is permitted, however there must be at least 24 hours between bumps. 'Bumping' will be taken to include notification of price changes, back to the top and the like.

What can be bought/sold

1. The Classifieds sections are restricted to items technological in nature. This includes most day to day tech items, which the specific exception of:
   
   • Car Audio Equipment
   • Mobile Phones
   • Engineering Samples (from any manufacturer)
   • Items received in the course of a Review or Editorial endeavour
   • OEM Software not provided with the hardware to which it is licensed
   • Vouchers of any kind - this includes, without restriction, credit notes, gift cards etc.
   
   If you are in any doubt as to whether your item fits within the definitions above, contact one of the Classifieds Moderators or Administrators BEFORE POSTING.
2. No Knives, Bows, Guns or Weapons of any description or kind may be sold on HEXUS. This includes replica items as well as BB/Airsoft and Paintball guns.
3. No mod/chip devices or items containing such devices may be sold. Sale of items such as the R4 DS chips are strictly forbidden.

2. Classifieds - Sales forum specific rules

1. ALL ITEMS MUST BE CLEARLY PHOTOGRAPHED WITH A LABEL IN CLEAR VIEW SHOWING THE SELLER'S HEXUS FORUM NAME & THE CURRENT DATE ON IT. THIS MUST BE INCLUDED WHEN THE THREAD IS CREATED, NOT TO BE ADDED AT A LATER, UNSPECIFIED DATE. Simply photographing the exterior of a case when both the case and the items inside are being advertised for sale is insufficient. Equally blurry photographs which make the items difficult to identify are insufficient.
2. Group photographs of small items (eg RAM/Hard Drives etc) are permitted. For larger, higher value items single photographs are required. In each instance the items must be clearly identifiable in the photographs.
3. THE SELLER MUST INCLUDE A LINK TO THEIR HEXUS.TRUST ACCOUNT IN THE OPENING POST.
4. No item may be sold for a value greater than the price you purchased it for. In the absence of any contrary evidence, that price shall be deemed to be the average of the prices at the major e-tailers on the day of posting. Finding a rogue price on Google shopping will not be accepted. Sale of items recently released, hard to find or 'good clocking items' fall within this without exception. There is a discretionary exception for collectible items. If you believe this applies, contact the Classifieds Moderators or Administrators BEFORE POSTING.
5. No 'interest checks' are allowed. Price Checks may be posted in the applicable HEXUS.HARDWARE section.
6. All items must have a price. This should be clearly displayed next to the item in question as to avoid potential confusion.
7. All items listed must be available for immediate dispatch. Posting they will be available in x days/weeks/months is unacceptable.
8. The final sale price of an item should remain in the thread even after the item has been sold.

3. Classifieds - Wanted specific rules

1. The Wanted forum is for 2nd User Items from members. If you see a new item which may suit the member's requirement, please inform them via Private Message and not in the thread.

I think people are often mistaking the wanted forum for the find me a bargain forum, tying it in closer with the classifieds forum would really help with that.

The only thing I'm not sure of is the post count - the restriction isn't active on the wanted forum for some reason, or at least it doesn't seem to be. Does that mean that they are meant to be somehow separated? If so, I can't see the reason why.

@Snootyjim - It's a bug unfortunately. It was one of the reasons that we are looking into creating a new Classifieds section, such that we can get the permissions as we want them.

@Kalniel - Fair comment on For Sale, I think in terms of references to 'For Sale Moderators' that I'll change to Classifieds. At the momemnt the distinction is largely moot - the current HEXUS Mods are all SuperMods anyhow.
