Also, there would be the risk that the anti-thanks type button would be used instead of explaining why the post is rubbish/ill informed/wrong - which although it may be obvious to some, may not be to others. Especially on technical matters...

On a serious note though, if someone does post something that's wrong, I think all of us would appreciate an explanation of why they're wrong. If people are consistently and purposefully misleading people then that's something we can deal with long-term, but in the short-term we all want good advice... and correcting bad advice can be very helpful.
Sending trolls back under the bridge from whence they emerged is much more fun as is ignoring them.

Well said. There's such a range of people on Hexus, from technology experts to complete novices. I can comfortably say that I'm towards the novice end of the spectrum, but I like to be helpful if I can. So, when I post I will sometimes get it wrong, with the right intentions. If anyone wants to call me on that they are absolutely encouraged to, but if it's done in the open then we all learn
Anti-thanks won't work though as people will just vote each other down tit for tat.
You describe something similar to a stackexchange style forum. Only our forum existed before those were trendy... bit difficult to change the way we do things now. Our members are pretty good at correcting misinformation
I guess we could look at adding a "This was the answer I was looking for" for question-based threads. I doubt it'll happen any time soon though
