    Rep points begging

    Hi

Could we please have some sort of rule banning begging for rep points? I've seen tens of posts containing nothing but 'feel free to add rep points', 'surely that's worth a point' or similar. If someone posts something worthy of rep points then they will be awarded. 'Reminding' people to add rep points distorts the way the system works. If someone doesn't add rep points to your post without prompting, they're not likely to add rep points to other people's posts without prompting either.

If someone is outright begging for rep points then action will be taken. Please remember that not everyone is aware of the rep system so asking for the points for some reasonable input is perfectly acceptable. After all, you don't need to read the post or action the request. If people are simply spamming with such requests then action will be taken.

Given that you have raised this I assume you have seen examples. Please feel free to post them here for analysis or send me a pm

It is generally annoying seeing 'gimme some rep' or simular at the end of so many posts.

Under the username on the left there is 3 boxes, click the middle one allows you to add reputation points for that user. Mainly used if someone has done a particularly handy post.

When I see anyone saying 'gimme some rep' or similar, I do. Negatively. I'm just mean...

lol we had one of these systems over at Extreme Overclocking Forums for a bit but people abused it and used it to further petty squabbles. Never seen the use in it personally.

I think it is kind of mean to ask for rep points in return for a post. If you get one then all to the good but asking for them seems to be a bit greedy. If people really want to get repaid for their advice they should be out there working as a consultant

I have to say though that I often wonder wether to give someone a rep point for a post. I mean what constitutes a rep point class post
